For candidates worrying about tier 1 of RBI,I would like to say that it is not hard at all.THe gk section is very easy and atleast 85% questions come from current affairs. The rest of the sections are like IBPS or sbi exams. For tier 1 gk,banker's adda will give a current affairs compilation 2 weeks before the exam.I studied that only in my last rbi grade b exam and got more than 60 out of 80. You will have to prepare a little more elaborately for tier 2 but that is also not much of a headache. Study economics from Ramesh Singh's book and then move on to UPSC general studies Paper 3 for Mains book by Showick Thorpe(lexisNexis publishers). For social issues,Ram Ahuja's " Society of India" book matches the syllabus very well. For finance read only the "Indian Financial System" part of Dutt Sundaram's Economics book.Other parts are not necessary. For management, use "Principles of Management" by Tripathi. For current affairs read the economic, poilitical and social issues from any magazine.I use CS chronicles. After this no one will stop you from getting a job in RBI this year. However if the pattern changes then it's a different story.
For RBI tier 1 ,if you are searching for a general allcoverage book, you can go for this one :
http://kiranprakashan.com/rbi-grade-b-officers-exam-phase-i-pwb-english.htmland/or this one :
http://www.arihantbooks.com/bookdetails/1249/9789351761914/Reserve-Bank-of-India-Officer-Grade---B--...
For all candidates here in this thread,I forgot to touch a vital point. If you think that NCERTs wil be better for you instead of Ramesh Singh's book on economics you can go for that.I havent used NCERT and so I will not be able to compare them. However in my case Ramesh Singh along with SHowick THorpe's book of upsc mains would suffice for this year's preparation I have decided not to go back to NCERTs any more :-)
here are the book links on retail sites which you will require for rbi ,in case some of you find it difficult to find the exact book.I have avoided flipkart links as the site is probably down with some net neutrality issue
😃
If you want to Tier 1 all-in-one book go for this one :
http://www.flipkart.com/rbi-grade-b-officers-exam-phase-objective-type-practice-work-book/product-re...
Paper 2 :
http://compare.buyhatke.com/books/Indian-Economy-for-Civil-Services-Examination-(English)-Ramesh-Sin...Another book for economics part would be this one by IC Dhingra :
http://www.flipkart.com/march-indian-economy-english-2nd/p/itmdyug6mcvzfx3r?pid=9788177291742&srno=b... But Manoranjan informed me that IC Dhingra covers only economics part of the syllabus while Ramesh Singh touches both eco and finance parts also .I have studied Ramesh Singh in the past hence I wont change my text book.I am waiting for the 7th edition of Ramesh Singh to come 😃 But those of you who would like to explore other books for eco can choose IC Dhingra also.
For social issues :
http://www.flipkart.com/society-india-concepts-theories-recent-trends-english-01/p/itmdytxkwdq9ucjfManoranjan shared this book, and according to him this book will be better than the above one by Ram Ahuja on social issues .Here's the link :

paper 3 :
for finance portion : : :
http://books.google.co.in/books/about/Indian_Economy.html?id=fMGW2Aen3XgCfor management : (this was for the old syllabus, check the last part of my comment,I have given suggestions for the new syllabus on finance)
http://www.amazon.in/Principles-Management-P-C-Tripathi-ebook/dp/B00DMXKDMWhttp://www.flipkart.com/principles-management-ascent-series-koontz-harold-author-english-tata-mcgraw... You can use the above two books in conjunction for management, but for RBI syllabus and question pattern(which is pretty simple),only Tripathi would suffice.Still it is always better to keep two/three books in hand.
After you finish Ramesh singh's economy, study this one to get better grasp on the subject .However this is only for hyper-serious aspirants, otherwise it might be an overkill for RBI exam
😃
http://www.amazon.in/Studies-III-Technology-Development-Environment-Examination/dp/935143320X/ref=pd...These suggestions are based on the present pattern. And any new ideas from anyone are welcome on the book list. for paper 1 essay writing,I would suggest any upsc essay book, like Arihant,LexisNexis etc.The comprehension passage is easy. You will have to go through official letter writing, official report writing, draft writing etc.but these will not require much preparation and these will always be uncommon, even if you read a thousand books :-) Hence just keep in mind the general formats of these official writings and read a few examples from some good book.
People who are thinking about the type of answer-writing in RBI ,check this link :
http://kiranprakashan.com/rbi-grade-b-officers-exam-phase-ii-english.html
The above book by Kiran Prakashan is probably the only one which compiles rbi mains questions.I am not saying that the answers given here are the best .But they are decent enough. And you will get a proper idea about answer writing from this book's solved examples. A final thing which I completely missed out 😃 After you finish studying eco from the text book(Ramesh Singh and/or Showick Thorpe),read this yearly book from Pratiyogita Darpan on latest issues affecting Indian economy. Here's the link :
http://www.flipkart.com/pratiyogita-darpan-general-studies-indian-economy/p/itmdz4z25sqrnxkv Do not buy the book immediately from the above link.It is the 2013 edition.Wait for the 2015 latest edition, which will come out within a few months.BTW this book is not a textbook,it is only for the prep of advanced eco and finance issues related to current economic condition of India. So don't replace Ramesh Singh and Showick Thorpe with this directly :-)
An addition to the above post, since the finance syllabus(paper 3 finance and management) has been changed(actually broadened) to some extent,R Singh or Dutt Sundaram might not be sufficient for all the topics.I myself have chosen Prasanna Chandra's book on finance for covering the syllabus. Here's the link :
