Labour
Bureau has been entrusted the task of conducting Annual Employment Unemployment
Survey in the country.

Labour
Force Participation Rate (LFPR) is estimated to be 52.5 percent under the UPS and
55.6 under UPSS approach at All India level. (Rural- 54.6, Urban- 47.2 UPS).

At
All India level, female LFPR is estimated to be 25.8 per cent as compared to
74.4 per cent for males.

The
Worker Population Ratio (WPR) is estimated to be 49.9 per cent at All India
level under the UPS approach. (Rural- 52.1, Urban - 44.6).

The
unemployment rate is estimated to be 4.9 per cent at All India level under the
UPS approach. (Rural- 4.7, Urban- 5.5).

At
All India level, the female unemployment rate is estimated to be 7.7 per cent,
whereas for males this rate is 4.1 per cent.

Female
unemployment rate was found to be more in urban region than that in rural
region.

At
all India level, 49.5 per cent persons are estimated to be self employed under
the Usual Principal Status Approach followed by 30.9 per cent as casual labour.
Only 16.5 per cent were wage/salary earners and the rest 3.0 per cent covered
contract workers.

Under
Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing sector, 46.9 per cent persons are estimated
to be employed at All India level based on Usual Principal Status Approach.
22.2% in Secondary sector and 30.9% in Service sector.

In
urban region maximum employment is in tertiary sector i.e around 60% and in
rural region it is in primary sector (around 60%).

More
than 90 per cent of workforce and about 50 per cent of the national product are
accounted by the informal economy.

Population
aged 15 years and above who received/are receiving vocational training is
estimated at 6.8 per cent at All India level.

The
survey results reveal that with increase in education level, the unemployment
rate, among persons aged 15 years and above, has also increased.

The
current size of India's formally skilled workforce is small, with approximately
2 percent.

The
Indian economy is dominated by Informal employment in Informal Economy
constantly around 86 percent.
