Three Effective measures to eradicate illiteracy in India India is second most populous country in the world. It also has a very large proportion of poor people who happen to be illiterate. Education is needed to make the poor and oppressed aware about the opportunities which can enhance their standard of living and pull them out of poverty. Since Poverty is a hindrance to people getting literate. Solving illiteracy problem needs to tackle various underlying reasons for poverty. Most of the children in India are not sent to school because it is perceived as waste of time. People think instead of sending them to school they should work, learn some skills and be employed in some way. So First measure of eradicating poverty would be to create awareness in parents as how education can improve their income in future. They should be made aware how a literate person not only earns more but helps in uplifting whole family and society. Also literate person is well aware of his rights so he can demand a fair wage to his work. It is also seen that children drop out of school when they get sick. People are reluctant to send their ward to school in fear of losing them. Girls child drop out is especially high in secondary school due to this reason. Schools must ensure high level of cleanliness especially in toilets and drinking water. They should also taught how to avoid spread of communicable disease. Some elementary form of medical facilities should also be provided in schools to ensure their well-being. Illiteracy rate is also high because spending on education is considered as waste of money. So government should ensure that education should be completely free. School fee, uniform, books and mid-day meal all should be provided by government free of cost. Plus some kind of monetary incentive should be provided to parents to enrol their ward in school and keep them enrolled to minimise the drop outs. Since poverty and illiteracy are interlinked. Poverty leads to illiteracy and literacy can help in eradicating poverty. It is observed that People do not themselves want to get literate. Instead they must be encouraged, guided and sometimes provided with incentives to get themselves literate. Poverty, poor education infrastructure facility and quality of education are hindrance to achieving universal education. Government should act as facilitator by providing good infrastructure, free education and removing social barriers to increase literacy rate and hence improve economic conditions of poor people in country.
