Something worth learning: To accept that someone else can be better than you !
It was a lazy afternoon & I stumbled upon this great youtube show “Breakfast with Champions” hosted by the ever-smiling face ‘Gaurav Kapur’. In this show, Gaurav Kapur gets into candid conversations with famous cricketers over breakfast. This particular interview episode was with the famous Gujarati cricketer, Mr. Parthiv Patel.
Somewhere deep down, I feel that M.S.Dhoni literally ended careers of cricketers like Parthiv Patel , Dinesh Karthik etc. who were undoubtedly great wicketkeeper-batsman but somewhere couldn’t stand before Dhoni , who is a millenial phenomenon & a blessed talent. To say the least, I felt pity for these guys.
Parthiv worked so hard , became one of the youngest cricketers, playing since 1999 , 5 consecutive centuries in first class cricket - a record and still no place because of one man - Dhoni. How brutally would I’ve hated this one obstacle standing between me and my spot in the national team & unlimited wealth !
(Now the interesting part)
Somewhere during the interview, Gaurav Kapur discusses this with Patel.
Gaurav : I was thinking for you, Dinesh , a lot of the boys…..the fact that this guy MS came. I mean there’s no secret that cricketers like him come only once in a century.
Parthiv : He is a legend , no doubt ! But one thing many people tell me that you are born in the wrong era. But I feel that we started playing before him. So if we hadn’t performed poorly, then he wouldn’t have played at the first place. So instead of thinking that, I think it’s us who didn’t perform to our potential. That’s why MS came to the team !
Gaurav (amazed) : Great point.
Parthiv : So to blame someone else that I was born in the wrong era and all that is to comfort you….but deep down you know that you have not performed that’s why someone else is there.
Gaurav : I love it. So you’re taking responsibility for it and you’re saying…boss, that’s a great attitude. We live in such a life where if anything wrong happens, then it’s everybody else’s but our fault.
Those words really carry a great lesson for me ! Everytime, I faced a failure I would start finding the great opportunities my competitors got ignoring the fallacies I have.
- The fact that I couldn’t make it to IIT was my fault, there were thousands better than me !
- The fact that I didn’t get the best placement was because I wasn’t good enough !
- The fact that she didn’t even care to acknowledge my existence was because someone was good enough/better than me !
I ain’t saying this solves our problems. Problems would be solved only when we work towards improving ourselves. But, the start of that process happens with the realisation that maybe we aren’t good enough.

Sbi clerk results will be out on NOVEMBER 1st with SBI PO since mains exams were conducted simultaneously.

Just called at crpd. They said that they are deciding a date & then put it on it's website in a notice like sbi PO. Notice may take up to a week to be uploaded on the site. So please stay tuned with the site.
