*VERY LONG POST ALERT. Read at your own risk.*

Also, written in haste, so please excuse the errors.

Ok, so a lot of people here have been continuously asking me about the GD-PI process and how to prepare for it. Have kept them waiting for a while, but finally here goes:

On the outset, let me just say this: You can't really "prepare" for something like a Group Discussion/Interview. Having appeared for two bank interviews (IBPS 2013 and SBI 2014) and a few interviews with private companies/GDs with colleges, I can honestly tell you that the whole GD/Interview experience is so spontaneous and on-the-spot, nothing in this world can prepare you for it. It all just happens in those 20-25 minutes. Having said that, we can still *try* to second-guess here and see which topics/techniques you guys can work on to make you better equipped to handle the GD/Interview.

Last year, SBI conducted the GDPI like this - All the shortlisted candidates from mains were divided groups of 15-18 each and were called for GDPI on a specific date at a specific time. My GDPI batch had 18 candidates, 2 of whom didn't show up. We reported at the LHO at around 11 PM and were made to sit together in a conference room. Now the first part of the process, and a very important one, was:

Document Verification: As soon as the Mains result came out, we were provided with a Bio-data document and a list of documents that we had to carry with us at the time of interview. Now both of these are really, really important and you have to be very, very careful in how you fill your bio data. It's a very long and detailed document (8 pages I think) and during the interviews, the entire panel kept referring to stuff we had written in the bio-data. So guys fill the bio-data as truthfully as possible, and whatever extra-curricular/professional degrees/courses/activities you mention there, be sure to have full knowledge about it and the ability to answer questions about it. The list of documents is also a long one, but since many of you have appeared for IBPS interviews, you'll have an idea about them. School/college degrees, work-experience certificates are something most people have readily available, but the most contentious one of the documents were the 2 character certificates we had to give. One character certificate was to be produced from the school/college we last attended and second one from a respectable government employee or such (I'll give you the exact details regarding this soon)

There were two officers who started the document verification at 11 AM, calling us one by one. They inspected each and every document of ours very carefully and spent a good 15-20 minutes on each candidate. One of us didn't have the required character certificate, so he was sent back and asked to come back on any of the following three days with the correct documents. So please be very careful with getting all the documents right. The document verification got over by 1.30 PM, and then came the next part of the process:

Group Discussion: We were informed that the same panel of 5 members will judge us on both GD and PI. All the panel members were AGM level employees and not very old/typical bank type people. (more on this later) The panel entered the conference room around 2 PM, and told us the format of the GD. We were given a topic and then given 2 minutes to think about and jot down our views. Then each of us was given 2 minutes to speak on the topic. There was no interruption allowed in these first two minutes each that everyone had to speak. After all of us were done with our 2 minutes of extempore each, then the panel opened up the floor for a "proper" group discussion. For 15 minutes, anyone could speak (in turns of course) countering/supporting each others' views. And then it ended. The topic for my GD was "An Entrepreneur is a good manager, but a manager may not necessarily be a good entrepreneur." (Officially the worst topic I have ever attended a GD on).

Then came the last part- The Interview: The same panel of 5 members took our interview. They were spending 15-20 minutes on each candidate and my interview also lasted for the same amount of time. As I entered, I saw all five of them were holding a copy each of the bio-data that we had filled earlier (forgot to mention earlier, they even asked us to bring 4 photocopies of the filled and completed bio-data form!). The head of the panel started with the questions. He was the one who questioned me for a good 10-12 minutes out of the 20 minutes of my interview. His first question was about the kind of work that I was doing in my job at that time and then once he found out that I am from an Economics background, he just kept asking me economics related questions - what is the J curve effect? What would you do to bring the economy out of the current spiral of low growth and inflation? What are the basic features of Keynesian economics and how applicable are they in today's world? Can the financial crisis of 2008 be compared to the great depression - how? And a few more I can't remember. Thankfully, I could answer all his questions well. Because my answers to the next 4 panel members were a little shaky. The second panellist asked me history related questions (since I had written in my bio-data that modern Indian history was one of my interests) He asked me one question on operation blue star (how did it all start) and another one on the Emergency (who challenged Indira in court that started the whole process). Answered his second question well but first one was a bit shaky. The third panellist asked me only one question - he spoke some obscure saying about Statistics (Statistics was a core subject in graduation, as mentioned in bio-data) and asked me if I agreed with it or not. I honestly did not understand what the saying meant (neither had I ever heard it before) so I just blabbered something and could easily make out that he was not satisfied by it. 4th panellist asked me what were smart cities, which I think I answered well. She then asked me existing NPA level of SBI and what could be done to bring it down. NPA level I knew, how to bring it down - I just had to make it up as I spoke. Somewhere in between answering this, I brought up Vijay Mallaya and his defaulting habits and it made her happy for some reason.  But the best had been saved for the last - the 5th panellist asked me just one question - He asked - Have you seen The Dark Knight movies? (I had written watching superhero movies as an interest in the bio-data) So I said yes obviously. So he then asked what did I think - all the technology showcased in the movies, does it have any rooting in actual physics? And I literally went - hain? The other 4 panel members gave a wicked smile to each other and I knew this was some kind of a on-the-spot thing they did. I came this close to asking him - Are you serious? But then had to control myself and just said that movies should be pondered over for what they are - an expression of art - and should not be considered for the cinematic liberties that directors often take to make them more entertaining. And with this, the panel gave another wicked smile look to each other and told me that That was it!

some of the rules are really confusing like certain statement given as possibilities in conclusion should follow or not and one more if statement given is exactly same in conclusion then it follow or not like

Statements:

Some people are intelligent.

All intelligent are honest.

No intelligent is smart.

Conclusions:

I. All intelligent are honest.

II. Some honest are intelligent.

(1600/1000)^6/(0.256*10)^7 *(1.024/4)^8= 1.6^?-9

what will come in place of the '?'

can you please solve the question step by step

Some statements are given followed by five conclusions. You have to consider the statements to be true (even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts). You have to decide which one of the following conclusions, follow from the given statements. Statements: All pots are cows. Some cups are pots. Some caps are not pots.                                                                        Conclusions: 1. Some cups are not caps. 2. Some cups are not pots. 3. Some caps are pots. 4. All caps are cows. 5. All pots are caps.
