SBI has recently released the final result for SBI PO 2015 Exam.  In all, 2,393 vacancies for the position of Probationary officers were filled through this exam.

If you are planning to appear for SBI PO 2016 exam, you must be concerned about exam preparation, expected cutoffs and your targets for the exam. In this article, we will provide you a detailed analysis of the SBI PO 2015 Mains scorecard. This will help you to set your targets and prepare your strategy for your next attempt smartly. So, before analysing the scorecard, let us take a quick glance at the new pattern of the exam.

Pattern of exam:  This year's SBI PO exam was held in three different stages as follows:

              Exam                                                                       Marks allotted

Phase I - Preliminary                                                                     100

Phase II - Mains (Objective + Descriptive)                                   250

Phase III - Personality Assessment (GD + Interview)                   50

Cutoffs at various stages of the exam:

Phase I  - Preliminary Exam :

This years' preliminary exam overall cutoffs & sectional cutoffs are as follows:

Overall cutoffs:

Category                Total marks

                                (out of 100)

General                        47.50

OBC                             42.25

SC                                37.25

ST                                 19.75

Sectional Cutoff:

Subject                        Total marks        General       OBC/SC/ST

                                                                    cutoff            cutoff

English Language                30                  5.75               3.25

Quantitative Aptitude           35                 5.75               3.50

Reasoning Ability                 35                  9.25               5.75

Our Target:

So in order to maximise your chances for final selection,

we can conclude that to be on the safe side ideally candidates should target around  48-50 marks for General category, 43-45 marks for OBC Category, 38-40 marks for SC category, 20-22 marks for ST category in SBI PO preliminary exam.

No. of attempts:

If we consider solving questions with 90 % accuracy, to be on the safe side candidates should attempt around 54+ questions for General category, 48+ questions for OBC category, 43+ questions for SC category, 23+ questions for ST category in SBI PO Preliminary exam. Achieving this target will improve your chances of selection for the Phase II of SBI PO exam.

Note: The marks obtained by candidates in the preliminary exam are for the purpose of eligibility for Mains exam only. These marks are not included in the final score.

2) Phase II & III - Mains (Objective + Descriptive) & Personality Assessment

Let us take the general idea of this year's cutoffs in Phase II & III exam for different categories,

Category            Mains               Mains         GD + Interview     Total marks

(Objective)      (Descriptive)     (Out of 50)         (Out of 100)

(Out of 200)     (Out of 50)

General                  80                    20                    20                      58.93

OBC                       70                   17.5                    18                       52.33

SC                          70                   17.5                    18                       49.20

ST                          60                   17.5                    18                       34.78

Now, let's calculate the ideal score and number of attempts for each category.

A) Cutoff analysis for General Category :

The number of marks secured by candidate in Phase I (prelims) exam are of qualifying nature only.  Candidates become eligible to appear for the Phase II of this exam, if they cross the minimum cutoff in Phase I. The marks secured by a candidate in Phase I are not included in the final scorecard.

Before analysing the cutoff, let's sum up the actual pattern and structure of exam. The structure of all three phases and the maximum marks allotted are as follows :

Mains (Objective) :  200 marks

Mains  (Descriptive) : 50 marks

GD + Interview : 50 marks

Total marks (out of 100) : 58.93 (For General category)

Here, final marks are counted by counting Phase II (Objective + Descriptive) + Phase III (GD + Interview)

The breakup for the final 100 marks goes as this :

Mains (Objective + Descriptive) + GD & Interview = 75 + 25 = 100

Let's assume that the average marks secured by the selected candidates in GD + Interview (out of 50) : 30 marks

After normalising, this would mean that a typical selected candidate should score around 15 marks out of 25.

So, to get exact marks secured only in Mains (Objective + Descriptive) exam,

58.93 - 15 = 43.93 marks (out of 75 marks)

Now, 43.93 x 250/75 = 146.43 marks

Thus, the typical selected candidate would have secured around 146.43 marks out of 250 marks.

Now, as we know Phase II = Objective (200 marks) + Descriptive (50 marks)

Let's assume marks secured by the selected candidates in Descriptive section of Phase II (Out of 50) on average = 30 marks

So, the number of marks secured by the selected candidates in the Objective section of Phase II on average = 146.43 - 30 = 116.43

Our Target:

So, we can conclude that ideally candidates should target around 115-120 marks out of 200 marks in the Objective section of Phase II of SBI PO exam in order to maximise their chances of final selection.

No. of attempts:

If we consider solving questions with 90 % accuracy, you should attempt around 135+ questions out of 200 in Objective section of Phase II exam. Achieving this target will improve your chances of final selection in the SBI PO exam.

B) Cutoff analysis for OBC Category :

Total marks (out of 100) : 52.33

Ideal marks to be secured in GD + Interview (out of 50) : 26 marks

After Normalising : 13 marks (out of 25)

In Mains (Objective + Descriptive) : (52.33 - 13) = 39.33 (Out of 75)

Now, 39.33 x 250/75 = 131.1 marks

So, candidates must secure around 131.1 marks out of 250 marks.

Ideal marks to be secured in Descriptive section of Phase II (Out of 50) : 26 marks

Ideal marks to be secured in the Objective section of Phase II = 131.1 - 26 = 105.1

Our Target : Around 105-110 out of 200 marks

No. of attempts (With around 90% accuracy) : Around 125-127+ questions

C) Cutoff analysis for SC Category :

Total marks (out of 100) : 49.20

Ideal marks to be secured in GD + Interview (out of 50) : 24 marks

After Normalising : 12 marks (out of 25)

In Mains (Objective + Descriptive) : (49.20 - 12) = 37.20 (Out of 75)

Now, 37.20 x 250/75 = 124 marks

So,candidates must secure around 124 marks out of 250 marks.

Ideal marks to be secured in Descriptive section of Phase II (Out of 50) : 22 marks

Ideal marks to be secured in the Objective section of Phase II = 124 - 22 = 102

Our Target : Around 102-107 out of 200 marks

No. of attempts  (With around 90% accuracy): Around 115-120+ questions

D) Cutoff analysis for ST Category :

Total marks (out of 100) : 34.78

Ideal marks to be secured in GD + Interview (out of 50) : 24 marks

After Normalising : 12 marks (out of 25)

In Mains (Objective + Descriptive) : (34.78 - 12) = 22.78 (Out of 75)

Now, 22.78 x 250/75 = 75.93 marks

So, candidates must secure around 75.93 marks out of 250 marks.

Ideal marks to be secured in Descriptive section of Phase II (Out of 50) : 22 marks

Ideal marks to be secured in the Objective section of Phase II = 75.93 - 22 = 53.93

Our Target : Around 55-60 out of 200 marks

No. of attempts (With around 90% accuracy) : Around 65-70+ questions

So, all the calculated ideal scores and number of attempts in Phase II Objective exam are as follows,

Category              Target Score                   No. of attempts to be targeted

(out of 200 marks)                   (out of 200 questions)

General                     115-120                                              135+

OBC                          105-110                                          125 - 127+

SC                             102-107                                          115-120+

ST                              55-60                                            65 - 70+

You should carefully consider the target score and expected number of attempts as you prepare for next year's SBI PO examination. This will help you make a proper plan and prepare an appropriate test taking strategy to take care of your exam.

You can check your progress from time to time by appearing for various mock tests for SBI PO Mains (Objective) exam. Mock tests will help you test you preparation, identify your strengths and weaknesses & fine-tune your time management strategy before the actual exam.

Best of Luck!!!

Bank PO job review :

"Those who want to get stuck in life should go to BAnk PO. I have left my "luxurious" job as a Business analyst" at a big MNC company in Hyderabad with good pay to join this Dumb PO job. This was the most ridiculous decision I have taken in my life that also due to family pressure. I have seen both the sides... (grasses on both the sides) and I belive " jinko life me mehnat nahi karna, jinke paas efficiency nahi, jinhe bas baithe bithaye salary milti rahi.... jinhe Private job me insecuritty feel hoti hai because they cant perform ,, aise hi log BANK PO ban ke aate hai. Employees here in Bank lack productivity, efficiency is the biggest problem, har chees me paper work, Work which could be done using Excel , SQLetc like Tallying  and all they prefer doing by taking print outs. No reward for doing something innovative, Hard working fellow and no work person .. both get same salary. I was posted in Mumbai and in my bank ( syndicate Bank) people were actually "Technologically Illiterate"  and reluctant to adopt new techniques even simple things like working in excel. Connectivity is pathetic, communication is like hell... till the time of my leaving bank i didny got my own email id, ( i workked for 1.5 years), I have to rely on IP messenger. Those who think you will get less work pressure in bank..... forget it.... till scale 3 you have to work more than 10 hrs  if posted in metros or  till 8-9 hrs if posted in tier 2. Till you finish scale 3 you are already 35. You think Job security...ohh please.... yes its true that they will not fire you anytime but I ll give you an example.... one of my collegue passed a wrong cheque worth Rs 1000 as 10 lakh due to small error. Since teh beneficiary customer ran away .... the amount was deducted from his salary in monthly installments. In bank also you have targets  to achive. In private they atleast give calculated targets ... here nobody bothers ... manager says ... you have to fullfill targets no matter how....like the case it happened in JAN DHANYOJNA. I happy after leaving this shit job of BANK PO . If you want to become banker and have interest in finance then only you should join ... then only you will enjoy your life. If you are joining because its a govt job a=then you are teh dumbest fool on this earth.... WHICH MANY OF YOU ARE"

Reality of bank PO job :

"Best to leave Banking....and I dont see why you need to pay a bond....it is supposed to be unconstitutional.....there has to be some release clause.....If I may suggest, you can try for a lecturer job in some pvt college and try to get into your field from there.....that way you will gain some experience in your own field....this suggestion might have its demerits so weigh all the pros and cons.....What you have written is so true and applies to Branches in metro cities as well. I was posted in Mumbai (4 years). No cakewalk there too and all the things like no decent lunch breaks, crappy customers, inhuman work timings etc are all too present in Mumbai branches as well. Any two bit customer with 100 rs in his account can come and shout at you for not having good service like HDFC or ICICI. Management in PSU Banks are too busy saving their asses or lining their nests or both. Unions have become toothless jackals. So the conditions of workforce in Banks will obviously go down and that is precisely what has happened. No one is accountable for the macro-conditions of the PSU banks and thus no one is looking at the big picture. Ad-hocism and firefighting are the two modes most of the Bank branches and RO's are working on. Short-sighted hiring policies of 90's and stupid VRS schemes are now coming to haunt PSU banks, and junior officers will be sacrificed at the altar of 'Bank Profitability'. Have you seen how much dividend PSU banks give to share holders year after year. And they say they have no money for recapitalization. How will you have, when you are not ploughing back profits into the Bank or investing in HR and infrastructure. They do not have money to upgrade servers / hardware / software and so on, but crores are being spent on useless activities (use your imagination!!) . If PSU Banks float a VRS scheme at present, all the senior staff (20 yrs service or more) will opt for it. Such is the condition!!!"
