Honest Analysis of SBI PO Mains 2017 (4th June 2017):
1) Reasoning (My attempts: 19) - Tough but question selection matters. Most of the 2 markers were Statement-Assumption type questions. There was one table criss-cross given (4 marks). It was lengthy but easy. Two puzzles were doable - One with "SCARED" and the other two squares with 4 gates (1 mark each). Data sufficiency was also moderate level (2 marker questions). One time coded questions (trains departing from P and Q - 6 marks). Rest was difficult however without attempting them, you could easily do 20 questions (most of which are of 2 marks each). Some say the input output question was new but doable (I didn't attempt it).
2) General Awareness (My attempts: 26) - Majority of the questions were from Banking (moderate level). Some old questions like IBBI Committee Chairperson was also asked. No static GK (Country, Currency, Capital, Dam, Stadium) asked. 3 questions from Union Budget. Surprisingly, most questions were number based (Value, budget, percentages). Questions were also asked from Capital Markets and Sections of Acts. Overall Moderate (would have been a bit easier if you focused more on banking during preparation).
3) Data Interpretation (My attempts: 16) - Similar to reasoning, tough but question selection matters. If you did 2 DI (Time and Work, Boat-Stream), you could have scored 20 marks. The DI was not calculative if you just understood the concept. Add to that 5 questions of Data Sufficiency, it was 30 marks easy. Doing 15 questions may take full 45 minutes, but with 90% accuracy, you could score 27 atleast. I didn't bother seeing the 1 mark questions. Last year only 1 question was asked from Geometry, this time they asked 4 questions.
4) English (My attempts: 29) - Lengthy section. Many new types of questions asked. This year there were questions from idioms and phrases also. If your grammar and vocab is good, you could do this section (although time was a constraint). In RC, an RC on NOISE was moderate level. But one RC with Deutsche Bank was difficult.
Total Attempts: 90
Good number of attempts cannot be estimated because it depends on the number of 2 marker and 1 marker questions that you did.
Expected Cutoff: 70 or less.
5) Descriptive Test - Easy general topics only. No current issues asked.
Final Statement: I know many PGians here hated PM mock tests, but as a person who attempted both OB and PM, I would say that PM nailed the pattern. I used to get marks in 60s-70s in PM and get frustrated (which made me purchase OB Tests), but finally it was only because of PM Tests that I could attempt these questions with confidence.
