Hi Everyone!

I want to understand what is the hype over SSC. I personally feel that SBI PO is a much better job due to the following reasons (This is no debate. Just my understanding. If you feel that I am incorrect, please do mention in the comments. Also no abuses):

1) Promotion Policy - SBI has faster promotions compared to any post in SSC. In SBI you can get to TEGS Scale based on performance (Chief GM level within 11-14 years). Most posts in SSC have their first promotions only after a minimum of 5 years (10-11 years in some cases). So my question is, will you be willing to do the same job for 5-7 years without any dynamic changes in work? Will you do the same job for 5 years without no increase in salary? I feel that you will yearn for a change after 2-3 years. BTW, whenever salary hikes happen by Pay Commissions, remember that eveyone's salary increases, from Peons to High Officials. Also, organizations like SBI give more importance to performance than any Govt. Sector job. So, if you are in Govt. Sector, bear in mind that you may lose out on promotions on the grounds of seniority and caste reservation, no matter how hard you work. Will you be able to handle such rejections?

2) Respect - It's a very Indian thing that attesting photocopies of ID Cards are a big deal. Though I don't feel that way. Also, prestige and respect is temporary. Whatever respect that you get, that will become non-existent (rather people will be indifferent towards you) after max. 2 years. (My aunt is a gazetted officer and in our family, we treat her just like a family member. We rarely discuss about her job or her signatory powers. We do get our documents attested from her if we require, but she doesn't seem too excited on doing it.). Same logic goes for SBI PO. No one f****** cares if you do well in life (except your parents and your spouse and kids).

3) Job Pressure - SSC posts have comparatively lesser job pressure but remember, that is always at the expense of promotions and salary hikes. When SBI gives allowances, faster promotions, foreign posting opportunities and good salary, some job pressure is to be expected. SSC ppl work for 7 hrs a day, SBI employees MAY sit for 9 hrs (though there is no fixed timing as Work-From-Home policy has been introduced). Also, never think that SSC ppl have no work pressure at all, All posts involving Field Work like IT Inspector, CBI, Narcos, ED, Preventive Officer (which are ironically the most sought after posts) have duties where you may have to be available 24/7 during raids (includes night duty). Also, fact: Ask any IT Inspector how his day was on 31st March of any year, you'll get an idea.

4) Salary - From next Bipartite Settlement in November, salary for SBI PO will become almost 55k in hand (my expectations). I don't know the salary of SSC posts but I am assuming it will be around 65k. SSC ppl have to wait for 5-7 years for next hike, whereas SBI PO can give confirmation exam after 18 months and can get direct promotion to MMGS Scale (subject to good performance), with an in-hand salary of 70k atleast. Also, if money is your main priority in life (which it shouldn't be), you can work in SBI for 3-4 years, then shift to any Pvt Bank where your in-hand salary will be minimum 2 Lacs per month. Bipartite Settlements happen every 5 yrs, Pay Commissions every 10 years.

I hope I have made my point clear. Please clarify your arguments in comments. If you have answered Yes for all my questions, then my friend, you are best suited for SSC.
