Listen to the topic properly and gauge whether you're familiar with it or not.
If you are familiar with the topic, then take charge and open up the discussion with authority. Memorize a few common quotes by famous personalities which you feel can be used in almost all topics, and begin your statement with it. Don't put all your views in the beginning itself, keep it short and sweet. Make another statement in between and then another towards the end.
In case you are not familiar with the topic, then sit back and observe. Use your critical reasoning skills to understand something about that topic from others, and again try to use some quote if it is fitting to the discussion. Here also, make at least 2-3 statements in between as your presence should be felt.
Lastly, never dominate at any point and don't look at the moderators amidst the discussion. Take it easy and hopefully result will take care of itself.
2. GROUP EXERCISE:
You'll be provided a topic and few parameters associated with it. You will have to rank those parameters as per priority individually and then discuss with the group and again rank those parameters groupwise. Techinically, if group's ranking order has most points common with yours, you will get an edge (there's no proof of it though).
Think as a layman keeping feasibility in mind and rank those parameters provided. Then, give examples to support your argument, which eventually will lead to acceptance by other group members. Here again, do not try to dominate and listen as much as you speak. We don't know how the moderators judge, so we should just try to keep it simple, at the same time make our presence felt.
