#SBIPOGDPIExperience2018
Before starting I would like to answer certain questions that are obvious and can pop up in your mind.
Who am I? What makes me qualified enough to guide you?
First, I am a no-one. Just a simple aspirant like you all. Also, a failed SBI PO 2018 candidate.
Secondly, I scored a decent 41/50 in the third phase last year around.
So, I believe I can be of some help to you guys especially the first-timers.
So, this post would be divided into three segments.
- My Last Years Experience.
- How to prepare for GD?
- How to prepare for the Interview?
- MY EXPERIENCE IN SBI PO 2018 GD-PI ROUND
Last year I could attempt only 66 Questions in mains. Hence, I was not expecting a call for the Interview. But, surprisingly, my roll no. was there in the PDF. I decided to give this round a dedicated try. I was helped as I got good 38-40 days for my preparation(my interview was on the 8th of October and the results were out on the 28-29th of August ).
Coming from a slightly privileged background, I could afford coaching. So, I decided to join one. I won’t say it wasn’t useful but you can totally manage without it too.
Fast forward to the D-Day (8th October 2018)
We were to report at 9 AM in the LHO Delhi. I was early. I took a cab but due to some political rally around the Jantar-Mantar area, the roads were blocked and I had to walk in those silly formal clothes, making me all sweaty. A really bad start to the day. Somehow, I reached the LHO, Delhi. The mammoth structure was enough to give me an adrenaline rush and I completely forgot the roadblock incident. I was excited. Nervous?Yes. But more excited. I entered the premises and was guided by the guard bhaiya to the 13th Floor Conference hall which was already filled with candidates and the SBI Staff. They were there for the document verification. The person who checked my documents was jovial in nature. He was patient with me and guided me smoothly through the process while cracking some silly jokes in between to cheer me up. But, just parallel to me was one Staff who was shouting at the candidates and scolding them for not arranging the documents properly and many other trivial kinds of stuff. So, my advice would be to arrange everything as per the instructions provided. Don’t give them a chance to yell at you as it might hamper your confidence level even before the start of the actual test.
So, after the DV, I was allotted Group-1 which had 9 other members. I was third in that group. Our group was taken to some other building before that all our phones and documents were submitted. We went to the building where our GD-PI was about to take place. Some lady came and instructed our group that we will have to face the GD round first so be prepared. We waited outside the room for about 10-15 minutes before we were called in. Before I continue I would like to add something very important which i learned from my Air Force Selection Board Interviews. Utilize these 10-15 minutes before the GD judiciously. Build rapport with your fellow mates. These are the people who will agree/disagree with you. But most importantly, if you have a good rapport with you they might agree or at least let you speak.
Coming back to the GD.
We were called in. We were made to sit in a semi-circle and there were three senior officers in front of us who introduced themselves and then made us aware of the nits and grits of the GD round. Then the candidates were asked to introduce themselves one by one. After the introduction was over we were given a note pad and a pencil. The GD round was divided into two separate rounds: a) GD (Is India completely Ready for Electric Vehicles/ Complete Ban on Fossil Fuels), b) Prioritization Exercise ( You are a customer care executive. Which things are more important for the client? We were given 8 Pointers and we had to arrange them in our order of preference)
The conduction of this round differs from panel to panel. Some moderators give time to each and every candidate to speak, some leave it completely to the candidates. Try to be just and give an ample amount of time to everyone to speak. Don’t be too adamant on your point. Try to understand others’ point of view as well. Try to perform well as a group as there is a high chance that your whole group would be marked the same marks. So, they are not your competitors on that very day. Try to co-operate and excel together. Also, try to conclude both the Exercises on a positive note where all the members come to a common ground.
Note: Language is not a barrier. You can use Hindi/English. The moderators explicitly mention this point. So, don’t be afraid if you are not fluent in English. Speak in Hindi. Be confident and Be fluent. Don’t mix Hindi and English.
After the GD was concluded we were made to wait at the exact same spot where we waited before the GD.
Now was the PI round. One guy came and took the first two candidates with him. As I was third in number, I knew next it would be me. After a while, he came again and took me and one more guy(#4) with him to some other floor where we met the other two earlier candidates. Their interview was yet to take place. So, we waited for our turn. Meanwhile, i had a look around and saw the cabin of people like Rajnish Kumar, and, Anshula Kant right in front of me. It gave me chills. Some Serious chills. Anyway. I got hold of my emotions and excitement and waited for my turn. After some 20-25 minutes, my turn came. Bell rang. I was called in. I asked for their permission to enter. I greeted them and they asked me to sit. After that, the Interview started. They started with questions like Why Banking? Why change in the stream? What are some major issues Indian Economy and World Economy is facing right now? Question on Mirabai Chanu as she won Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. Questions on my Graduation subjects. Some random follow up questions in between which no one can prepare for and must answer by their instinct. My interview went for around 25-30 minutes. It was surprising as the previous two candidates combined was less than 25. I was not sure whether it was a good thing or not. I thanked them and came out. I wished the other candidates luck and was guided back to the building where our Document Verification took place and all our belongings were kept. I was offered food which i gladly accepted as I was starving. I ate and Booked a cab and left the building. But all the gates were blocked as the Political rally had turned violent and the police force was called. CRPF was at the spot, not the regular ones, with those water cannon tankers. That shit was serious. Guard bhaiya called me in and asked me to wait for the situation to get better. It took 30 more minutes for the CRPF to clear the roads. Still, the cab was not allowed to enter the area and I had to walk to the nearest Metro Station i.e. Rajiv Chowk.
All in all, it was an eventful day which I won’t forget anytime soon.
I hope you got some idea about the day. I deliberately tried to make it more elaborate so that you can get the idea of the day from a candidates’ perspective.
The other two segments would be posted soon. Thank You. Good Luck.
Happy JANMASTHMI to all :)
THANKS TO GOD 🙌
