Let me share with you my GD & PI experience of last year which took place on 16th September, 2015. Not going into details, I'll just give an overview.
A sunny hot day, that was! The scheduled timing was 11 AM.
For the first 90 minutes, document verification happened, without any hassle. Just take all the important documents. If you don't have a few documents with you, they make you sign and undertaking stating that, once selected, you'd provide those documents to them. For the lazy bums, if you forget to get few documents xeroxed, don't worry, they'd have a photo copy machine.
Oh, and, call for the interview is not based on the roll number, and also it DOESN'T DEPEND on your "marks obtained" in Mains. So, stay away from such rumours. It is random, however, it is category wise. All the categories are called separately (as far as I know), so, if you're a General, then all the candidates in your batch would be General too.
Anyway, coming back to where money is. After the document verification was done, we were asked to go for lunch which was provided by SBI. It was not the tastiest food that I've had, nor was it the worst. Since, my interview took place in SBI Learning Center, it was the cafeteria food, so you cannot expect it to be the best. However, at some places, they do provide some good food. To that extent, that I've also heard they provide McAaloo Tikki at some places (might be just a rumour). Also, before the lunch, outstation candidates were given their Travelling Allowances (Yes, SBI gives you that).
Once done, we were asked to assemble in the conference hall at 2. It was a U-shaped table, facing the assessors - 4 male, 1 female. The chairperson would be sitting in the middle. They tell you the basic rules (which people disregard, you should not). One by one speaking, not more than two minutes, do not interject while someone is speaking. A batch will have maximum of 15 people, so this should be normally continued for half an hour, however, there are always some maharathis, girls mostly, (and yes, I'm not a sexist) who take more than two minutes to speak and are ASKED by the panel to stop speaking, actually they are ask to shut their mouths. After this is done, DO NOT just jump in and start blabbering. Wait for institutions, they will give you some instructions after everyone has completed their own narration. Most probably, they will tell that you've 5 or 10 minutes to discuss the topic and again do not interrupt anyone, let them complete. Also, it is recommended to be helpful, don't think that if someone does good, he'd get more marks. Marks depend on your performance and not that of other's. So, if a candidate gets stuck while in GD and fumbles, don't just ignore him and get on with your stuff, be patient and let him complete, and if someone else starts interrupting him, then request that candidate to let the other one make his point first. Make sure that you (your batch) don't make it a fish market. Be calm, composed, do not lean on the table. Keep noting what your batchmates are speaking so that you can counter or support that.
The topics given are very generic in nature. The topic given to our batch was "India's current foreign policy", thanks to Modi Ji's frequent state and group visits.
I personally didn't not do that good, made some good points, but fumbled a couple of times with "Umm" and "you know".
Then comes the PI. You're called one-by-one. There is no set duration, it maybe 25 minutes, or even 9 minutes. It will be based mostly on the Bio-Data form that you'd fill. Your family, your graduation, your work experience (if any), your hobbies. These are the points they ask about. Some current affairs, and may be some Banking and other economic terms. Like I was asked Currency Swap, Lead Banking, Stock Market.
They're mostly cool, and don't try to grill you. Just BE YOU. DO NOT pretend. Don't know an answer? Tell them that you don't know, honestly. Do not just say anything for the sake of saying something.
My interview, I beleive, was very cool, and although expected very good marks in PI, I didn't get.
Let me tell you the most important thing, GDPI can make your life. It is the most important phase of the three. Only phase where you can score full marks. I scored 13 in GD and 21 in PI and just so that you know how important it is, I couldn't make in to final list by just 2 marks. Had I scored 2 extra marks in GD and PI each, I'd have been sitting in a SBI branch somewhere pissing the costumers off.
How to prepare:
Group Discussion-
Just read about some recent topics and some all time favorite topics. For example (Don't just prepare them, they are just for example):
1. Effects of GST, if any.
2. Does NSG or MTCR membership really matter?
3. India's dismal performance in the Rio Olympics.
4. Male manager VS female managers.
5. Which is better - Parliamentary or Presidential form of government.
6. Should death penalty be abolished?
7. Is COP-Paris enough to tackle the menace of Climate Change?
For GD, confidence is very important. Even if you speak for just 1 or 1.5 minutes, speak confidently, making your points clear as crystal making sure no one can counter you.
When the discussion becomes open, make a couple of points, without interrupting anyone, also, DO NOT repeat the same points that you've said initially.
Personal Interview-
Here, you need to KNOW yourself. Just be YOU. DO NOT lie, if you do, make sure that it is not evident from your body language that you're lying.
Whatever you mention in the Bio-Data form, know it in-and-out.
Prepare Banking Awareness, and current affairs from the last 30-40 days. Wear a smile on your face. Accept that you don't know everything, no one can know everything.
All the best!
people who hav given last yr gd/pi, kindly suggest wat is more preferable for girls- salwaar kameez or shirt nd trousers?
I am too modest and bad at lying..i am just not able to make up stories to impress anyone just for the sake of it( even if it may land me into the largest bank of the country).. and obviously I cant clear the gd pi part with this attitude..especially pi I suppose..any suggestions what to do??

Is Migration-cum-conduct certificate from my institute is same as character certificate??? Its written conduct is good, in the certificate.
People who have pursued their graduation from delhi university please clear my confusion regarding character certificate. Have you been provided with a seperate character certificate or just the provisional certificate. I have only been provided with the provisional certificate only which in the end states that i bear a good moral character.. It will work na ? Or I need to get a seperate certificate?
Im preparing a full list of all probable gd topics and will post it shortly
I am preparing 3 lists containing gd topics frm banking, current affairs and generic/static. List A (related to banking) 1) Role of banks in indian economy or financial inclusion in india 2) Should the public sector banks be privatised? 3) Growing NPA among psbs, role of ARCs 4) new banking reforms like mclr 5) Monetary policy committee, Bank Board Bureau, Indradhanush 6) SBI associates merger 7) role of payment banks, payment banks vs psbs 8)Paperless banking and cashless economy Anything missing out? Plz add. Welcome in advance.
Ahoy B.Tech CSE grads out there qualified for GD PI. I am preparing Data Structures & Algo, Formal Language & Automata, Microprocessor & Microcontrollers, Operatins Research, DBMS and Software Engg. That's 6 sbjcts spread ovr 8 sems. Would suffice I suppose? Also I'm brushing up C, C++, Java. My project was using C# and .NET, and we also had lisp, prolog and python in 7th sem, I'm leaving out those languages. It won't hurt I suppose coz it's already too exhaustive. I don't wanna leave any stone unturned in PI. And I'm just doing the Affairscloud SBI PO Mains capsule which is quite comprehensive and covers each and every thing and also Jagranjosh for weekly gk updates. That's all and enough I suppose? What are you doing puys?
any obc candidate here ? I have a query regarding obc caste certificate
I had my obc certificate renewed last year in november for rrb interview and its validity will end in october. In the notification its mentioned that the non creamy layer certificate should be issue after april1st 2016 but no mention about the date of issue of caste certificate... so can anyone answer whether I need to renew it again or not ?
