"one of " structure must be followed by plural nouns , hence the driving factors.

in sentence 2: so, me coming back to India is a bit like coming 'home' - in so many ways it's where I come from.

";" is used at the end of first sentence . ";" is used between two separate statements , linked in meaning ..........hence after so for should be followed , without it sentence is incomplete.
