It is called subjunctive mood.It is used to express wishes,opinion,possibility,emotion or any action which has not happened yet.

E.g- I wish I WERE an angel.(this is a wish so WERE is used)

I wish you WERE here.

IS becomes BE in subjunctive( The teacher suggested that the rule BE(not IS) followed immediately.

WAS becomes WERE

3)
Verbs ending with S become verbs minus the S.
The boss suggests that Riya WORK full time henceforth.
