Just Trying out to Explain :

The reason we are using "extending" and not "extended" because extending signifies that it still happens today. We know this as the sentence says that "it's still the oldest living organism from the first part of the sentence.

why not "is extending"?

"is extending" --> What I can see here is that Pronoun ko sahi Refer nahin kiya hai...!!

Yahan Parallelism is to be seen which is between spawned and extending.

Spawned is a Participle here and "is extending" participle nahin hoga na. The participle is needed which is "extending" here. Ek baar sentence ko break karke dekhna into 2 parts. You'll get it. :):)

1) A, B and C

3) C only
4) A, B, C and E
5) A, B, C and D

:)

OA:

1. Statement A is incorrect since the emphasis or subject in question is one. Therefore, the statement should read, Every one of the students buys his or her own books.
Statement B is incorrect because the verb following "who/which/ that" agrees in form with the subject immediately preceding "who/ which/ that". Here, the subject preceding "who" is "boys" (and not "one of the boys"). Hence, the verb should be "love" (plural) and not "loves" (singular).
In statement C, if two nouns joined by and refer to the same person or thing, the verb is singular. Here cheeseburgers and aerated drinks are both food, i.e. they refer to the same thing.
Statements D and E are correct.
Hence, the correct answer is option 3.

2. Statement E is incorrect because when the plural noun denoting amount is referred to as a single unit, the verb is usually singular. Ten litres of petrol is a single entity. Therefore, the correct statement should read; Ten litres of petrol costs five hundred rupees.
The other statements are correct.
Hence, the correct answer is option 5.
