Hi , do we get a minute to collect out thoughts for the extempore ? @nikhilbrad
An extempore doesnt give u time to think- you will have only 2 mins to speak so it basically means you got to start as soon as you get the topic.
Some steps to help you through:
1. Read aloud the topic you get to the panel
2. You can start with the obvious/literal meaning of the topic/saying/statement given to you.
3. Simultaneously, think about any lateral meaning, examples you can quote which are relevant and related to the topic and quote them soon after.
4. If you are running out of content, always use the age old method of SPELT- the Social, Political, Economic, Legal and Technological angle in your topic.
5. If point no 4 doesnt work, try relating the topic to something from your own life/B school/MBA etc- which reflects that you are capable of thinking on the feet as well as you can connect the dots in a way which is relevant to the discussion.
Yes, You do get a couple of minutes to streamline your thoughts and the extempore begins when you are ready to speak.
Well am not sure of this- depends on the panel coz I saw some of them in Pune asking candidates to read the topic aloud and start in 2-3 seconds.. The total time given for the extempore was 2 mins.
