yesterday people were fuming over tax benefits not being announced in 2018-19 budget.And this alone has become the reason for some to vote back congress :) Voting for any party on any issue is an individual choice,and I am no fan of the bjp,because the issues I seek are civilizational and cultural protection of indic hinduism,and BJP has done little to nothing on that.However,I may end up voting for the bjp anyway,since voting back congress led UPA or any 3rd front would be like jumping into fire from the frying pan .But when people speak of voting for bjp or cong based on tax slabs,they forget so easily that taxation slabs were far higher in the UPA era,and NPS was started in the UPA era.The only logic they give is that the UPA 1 apparently gave a higher hike in basic compared to NDA 2.But realise this,before the 6th pay commission,the salaries and basics in central and state govts were poor,infact back in those days,people even opted out of the lower end group c and d jobs ,solely because private sector paid higher at that time.Hence the UPA govt gave a huge hike of 40% compared to what NDA 2 gave,at 14%( though the scale will be revised upwards again in 2018 april,without any arrear payments) But what central and state govt employees forget or dont realise,is that the 6th pay commission was a huge hit on the working class population,with CPI touching 10% in january 2014,the last term of UPA 2 govt before they lost power.Hence effectively the situation turns out that Dr Manmohan Singh,with his LSE phd,gifted the new PM an economy with 10% CPI.That cpi has now been brought down to the level of 1-2%.Or else,imagine,if the NDA 2 also gave a similar hike of 40% on the basic,and the central+state govt employees start living like kings,then where would the inflation have gone?And how would the 95% people of india living outside the ambit of govt jobs or pensions have managed this inflation?This is exactly the problem with giving away millions of govt jobs.A nation runs on economics.And no nation can afford to give permanent ever increasing salaried jobs to a large section of people,or else they will end up like a zimbabwe,venezuela or Poland,Germany of ww2 era.Over and above that,the middle class salaried group is a stable tax base for any nation,not just india.For example,in denmark,healthcare and education are absolutely free,but at the cost of 60% taxation on income beyond 50K danish dollars per year.The situation is such that many danish citizens choose not to cross the annual 50K danish dollars mark,they live in lower middle class state,because otherwise the govt will start snatching more than 50% of their earnings beyond that limit,and that may not be worth the effort of earning more at all.ANd this is how denmark affords free healthcare and education.in contrast,we get things in india in a far lower cost and without paying any huge excess taxation .Infact u actually paid more to UPA govts of the past than what u are paying to NDA now,because slab percentages were higher in UPA era.Hence keep ur expectations realistic from any govt,not just the UPA or nda.For the record,I dont wish even the UPA to give me 100% hike in salary or a million govt jobs,because I know that will severely affect the economy of india.Vote for congress if u think it will work better than nda in defence,infra,agri,rural dev,inflation control,international diplomacy etc.Dont vote any party,congress or bjp or whatUhave,because u believe they might give more hikes in pay commissions,because u may end up losing on both sides(chances are that if UPA 3 comes,it will not give any more hike in 8th or future pay commissions,since they had a bitter experience of 6th pay panel).
