Just for inspiration. Hi Guys…!!! I am Shivansh Athotra. I got selected at the post of Central Excise Inspector which is now renamed as GST and Central Excise Inspector in Central Board of Excise and Customs through SSC CGL 2015. Owing to some restructuring issues in CBEC as a result of Implementation of GST around the country, we got late joinings in the month of June 2017. Based on our rankings and preferences we got our postings at various zones around the country. I joined in Surat Commissionerate under Vadodara Zone. Around the country a centralised system under GSTN is being set up and most of the Functions will be controlled through GSTN portal. Now regarding the life at Excise and Customs. It all depends upon how one take the opportunities one gets and how one uphold the responsibility bestowed upon oneself. It is said that Customs Department is more lucrative as compare to Excise department and one working in Excise department will definitely get an opportunity to work in Customs department based upon the opportunity one gets as per requirement of the officers at various Customs Commissionerates. Now, the working condition and environment is based upon how much labour one is willing to put on in one's work. If one is shirker, one will get less chances to learn much and subsequently it will debase one's reputation in the department. There is a lot of work load in the GST and Central Excise department. Since I have joined my Assistant Commissioner and Superintendents have advised that those who have good command over his work assigned to him, he will always be respected and even senior and superior will appreciate and would like to have him under them. The knowledge of job profile and command over work will make one an apple of everyone's eye. Since my joining in Surat Commissionerate various responsibilities have been bestowed upon me. I am listing a few of them as under:- As an Division Officer I am handling Various Charges:- All work pertaining to 100% Export Oriented Units. Bond and Bank guarantees pertaining to Concessional Rate of Duty and Customs related works. All work pertaining to Anti Evasion/Preventive section. Survey and Enquiry report pertaining to Evasions and Preventive Section. All work pertaining to Rebate/ Refund/ Drawbacks. All work pertaining to LUT and End use Certificate pertaining to Export. All work pertaining to Bond and Bank Guarantee pertaining to Export of Excisable Goods. All work pertaining to IT Department of the Whole Division and Various Ranges under Division. All duties pertaining to day to day Administration of the office. Acceptance of proof of Export, declaration of exemption availed by assessee and Job work. Registrations and all types of Permission related to Storage of Goods outside premises. Apart from all of the above mentioned sections under Division, I have been bestowed upon a responsibility of Range Inspector of A Range under Surat Commissionerate. After an experience of a year or two one gets an opportunity to work as a Range Inspector which I got in a short span of 5 Months. Even the love of work, learning and hardwork have given me a recognition infront of IRS Officers. Right now I am handling both of the above charges of Division Officer and Range Inspector. Guys if you are willing to learn and give efforts in the responsibilities bestowed upon you, you will always be regarded and will be in good books of your seniors and superiors. You will have your signature power because when you sign a document the export of goods takes place and if you don't sign the exporters have to bear damrage charges. This is the power of your signature when it will affect the industries and society. Before joining this department or any department, I would like to advise all of you that where ever you are working start loving your job and the work assigned to you. Why I am saying to love your job is because any how you have to work and complete the duties assigned to you. Whether you like it or not. If you do not like your job it will affect you both physically and mentally. But if you start loving your job then whatsoever the responsibilities assigned to you, you Will be able to accomplish it and you will never get tired or irritated by your job. But subsequently your work will become your friend. And wherever you go if you have knowledge and command over your work you will be regarded always and everything will be added to your service books. Even after your retirement you can work as consultant in Taxation fields which will give you enough scopes in those fields. The Government jobs may not offer you lucrative Salaries but your position, power, fame and status will give you enough satisfaction. If you are willing to learn and give your 100% then you will enjoy respect EVERYWHERE.
