One off-topic question for previous years selected ITIs: Please help!!

I quit my private job last year and withdrew my provident and pension fund (EPF and EPS). Because service period was less than 5 years, EPFO deducted income tax on EPF but they did not deduct any tax on EPS.

I live in a small town and my local CA is saying that EPS (cumulative pension amount) is exempt (under section 10 of income tax) but he is not able to answer under which head. Can someone enlighten me if EPS amount withdrawn is actually tax exempt or not.
