Article 18:
What is the format of a “Formal Letter”?
Well, till now we have seen the type of letters that are asked in exam and we are done with how evaluation of a letter is done generally. As we have noticed earlier that certain marks are allotted only for the format that we follow strictly. Then why don’t we follow the required format of a formal letter in order to get full marks in this section?
Steps involved in a formal letter,
1) Senders Address
Example: B-38, Agnipath Apartments
Civil Lines, Allahabad
211001, Uttar Pradesh
2) Date
Example: November 22, 2017
3) Recipient’s address
Example: Mr. Ajay Gupta
801, Himgiri Apartments Naini,
Hyderabad 500 016
4) Salutation
Example: Dear Sir/Madam
5) Subject (we must keep it brief…Subject basically tells the purpose of the letter)
Example: Subject: Request letter to send garbage trucks
6) Body of the Letter (Introductory paragraph, theme or main paragraph, concluding paragraph)
7) Signing Off (Subscription)
Example: Yours Faithfully,
Your Sincerely,
Important Note: Friends, this is the format that is generally followed for writing a Formal Letter. Generally most of the people get confusion that whether “Salutation” must be written after “subject” or before “subject”. As far as my best knowledge is concerned, above one is the right format and seniors may suggest about this If I am going wrong. (For Informal letters..there is no such confusion as there is no need to write “SUBJECT” in informal letters)
Very Important: By today evening, I’ll share Letter writing materials to the candidates who requested for materials. So that, you will open those materials and check the details, format and everything.
