I had a conversation with scientist G from IMD. As a job security its good. Growth is maximum upto scientist D/E, as per latest govt.directives only if you have relevant PG and better chances with Ph.D. Dept is operational, not much research opportunity available with them for SA. Research work is done mainly at Pune and sometimes Delhi. As a scientific asst you are going to handle specific tasks, be it admin or instrumentation or anything else. Since it becomes monotonous, people start quitting and that was specifically mentioned by him for over-qualified candidates. If a person is keenly interested in research and that too if the person is convinced, he will assign you some specific job in that and no more than that. Training starts in Pune for 9-12 months. A common training initially, then respective task oriented. People getting posted at substations will need to work in shifts.
