dude,..my base branch is tcs hyd but right now am in mumbai, on deputation..
dont worry yar, u need not know anything, if anything is needed they will definiteky train you, there are so many technologies,depending on requirement u will be taken in the respective project and if they think technical skill is needed they will definitely traini you, no one here is expert before comin, everyone learns here.

I was from civil engineering background zero knowledge in IT...so where in hyd/..

I have 3+ years of exp in MNCs. TCS is offering me a package of Rs. 6 Lacs and designation of ASE. Is it a fair deal? I am a Sr. Software engineer in my present company. Will I get ITA designation if I ask for it? Should I ask for more package?

Hey ,,, if ur 3+yr experience u should ask for ITA only ,,, if u hired at ITA u will automatically get the 6.5 lac package , because if u join as ASE now , it will be very difficult for u to get promoted , as promotion process is not at all transparent in TCS,, it make take u around 5 yrs overall exp to get promoted....

I got an offer from Yahoo Bangalore (which I haven't yet accepted). But I'd prefer Chennai where I can hook up with more Tamil girls in office and me being a Tamil guy. So I was thinking whether I should attend the TCS walkin in Chennai tomorrow in Chennai. From what I read in this forum, it seems like I can't expect like 13 - 14 lakhs?? Is there any other company in Chennai that offers that much? I have 5 years exp as Java developer and am a NIT graduate.

one of my frnd who started working in tcs in 2007 was promised he will get 3.8 after confirmation.He got confirmed a few days back but now his offer letter says package is 3.37 lacs :shocked:

so is this way the IT companies will remain their margins and show the world IT is immune from recession

by cutting salaries by 15% by hook or by crook :huh:

IT unions r cry of the day or these companies will keep sucking peoples blood and leave them hollow :sad:

ps: infosys directors got 81% payhiuke and employees get 8% hike :huh:


This promise you speak of, was it on paper or a word of mouth? If its a former, all your friend needs to do is talk to the HR. Otherwise, he has another lesson learnt!

It takes a minimum of 4 years to move from one grade to another.U can expect a salary of 6 -7 lakhs per annum after 5yrs of experience in TCS.

Could some one help me in understanding how the designations are defined in TCS and how long it takes to move from one level to the next (especially from ITA to Assistant Consultant) also how much salary can someone with 5 years of experience expect in TCS?

Also can some one provide the same information for Infosys/Wipro.

Currently at ITA level the salary is ranging from 6.3 to 7. lacs pa.
As far as time is concerned in getting any promotion its totally on ones rating n yrs of exp.But one thing is for sure if rating is on lower side promotion is delayed by 1 yr.This is new change in TCS now.

Nitin is correct.

The positions that are given to depend on the college you are recruited from.

If TCS hires you from A grade MBA colleges then the desinations they give are,

  1. Management Trainee (MT's) (For freshers)
  2. Assistant Business Analyst (ABA) (For those from 0-3 years work exp)
  3. Business Analyst (BA) (3-5 years work exp)
  4. Assistant Consultant (AST) (5-8 years work exp)
From there on it goes like Assosciate Consultant, Consultant, Sr Consultant, Principal Consultant, VP etc.

The difference between Management Trainees (MT's) and Assistant System Engineer (ASE) is that MT's get a much bigger pay package.

The same difference between Assistant System Analyst (ASA) and ABA; the ABA would have way bigger pay package.

Same for IT Analyst (ITA) and BA. The BA gets a bigger package and as he rises in ranks his salary hike gets bigger too.

Also the variable component keeps getting bigger as you grow up the ranks when you come from a A grade B-school (like SP Jain, IIM, XLRI, IIFT, Jamna Lal Bajaj etc).

Hope that clears some doubts.

Your confirmation pay package depends on your confirmation rating!!! Your friend would have been promised and would have got 3.8 lakhs if he would have got a 5 rating.

But since he got a lower rating he got a lower package. Thats that!
