Undoubtedly, the thought of living in, or forming a utopian society has flashed through nearly every person €™s mind. The dream of forming and maintaining a utopian society was immortalized in two novels dealing with the same basic ideas, 1984 by George Orwell and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Both of these novels deal with the lives of main characters that inadvertently become subversives in a totalitarian government. These two books differ greatly however, with the manner in which the government controls the population and the strictness of the measures taken to maintain this stability. ____________________

1) Yet, Brave New World is comparable to 1984 as both are views of a totalitarian government which attempts to provide its citizens with a utopian society.

2.Although the novels are comparable, Brave New World could be perceived as a positive utopia and 1984 as a negative one.

3.However, there is one great similarity: both make one thankful for having been born into a freethinking society where a person can be truly free.

4.Finally, 1984 shares with the reader a view of the future horrors that may be yet to come, and Brave New World portrays an acceptable society with undesirable hidden traits.

5.Our present society may not be truly perfect, but as these two novels show, it could be worse.

yeh wala dekho ab @anupam001

2 and 3 eliminated by style of passage. 4 is not linked. 5 looks good. 1 kaise btw ? :O

Maine jo mistake kari thi usko Subhash 'Ghai' kehte hai. :splat:

Anyway, 2,3,4 aren't eliminated jaise @Estallar12 keh raha hai because contrasts are common, especially when 'differ greatly' is followed by 'great similarity'. That's why I said 3, in haste.

Now, 1-2-3-4 are knocked out by one common reason. They are all narrow in terms of scope, because read the first line, " Undoubtedly, the thought of living in, or forming a utopian society has flashed through nearly every person창€™s mind. The dream of forming and maintaining a utopian society was immortalized in two novels " .

So, the whole point of the passage is that everyone yearns to live in a utopian society, and everyone has thought about it. The books are examples of an attempt by people of painting a picture. So, any detail about the book is just an unnecessary digression.

The last line comes back to the point through option 5 and ends the idea.

Waise, Jaldi main I didn't read the 5th option carefully and missed the point of the passage. :splat: Rainman dekh raha hu na. 😛

I think we all underestimated the lines "both these deal the lives of main characters that inadvertently become subversives in a totalitarian governmnet" ........

Utopian :- ideal society..
subversives :-intended to overthrow govt, etc.
totalitarian :-impsing too much power/control...

Now, the passage starts with the idea that we often dream about living in a ideal society/ a society devoid of clashes/ devoid of autocracy/ etc...
It then goes on to mention 2 books exploring this dream of ours.. These books nly shw, how people act against their govt to achieve the utopian society.. that is their main aim.. though they differ in the sense that, the degree of power /autocracy imposed by the govt is different. Nevertheless these books show/hint that how ugly/worse our society can potentially become...
hence 5...

correct me @Estallar12 @anupam001 @Omkarp

^^This is what I meant by Style of Passage Omkar. The passage is not flowing as in to contrast what is said in the previous lines. It is moving around the "utopian society" from the start and so something linked to that point should end it.

4 is not linked because it is talking about what the two novels are talking about or portraying and the passage ka essence is not that.

chalo...ajke liye byas itna hi... kal prev year cat paper se 4-5 discuss karenge, found some to be really tricky... that is if u guys dont mind... 😃
