Why Finance?

International Banks mostly will give back end research profiles or middle office profiles

PSU Banks do provide profiles in treasury , corporate banking etc which are decent profiles

CFA only matters if recruiters value them at your campus , else its not worth going for CFA ....if its just placement point of view if its long term then fine ..

A slight variation....
1. PSBs do NOT provide Treasury Management to freshers unless some IIM passout decides to choose a PSB for some xtraordinary reason
Even corporate banking is not that easy to get. MSME or Retail is usually given to freshers in PSBs. However one can get into Corporate banking after spending some time(say 1 yr) doin MSME appraisals.

2. CFA and FRM always matter ... even if recruiters do not value them at a particular campus ( wich will really be bizzare that a bank not giving any value to CFA ). IMO, a student willing to go into finance shud always go either for CFA or FRM depending on his job. If not during MBA then may be later.

Sirjee

1)Central Bank of India has given both profiles in our batch :)
2) Regarding valuing CFA i am not denying they dont value it but i didnt see it making any difference at all this year 😃 I think a lot of non CFAs made it to the same profile along with CFA guys :)

PS: I gave my opinion based on the college mentioned by that person .. its not a generic statement at all

ADDED Later : A very famous Puy Avinav2712 is currently manager forex (part of bank treasury) at Central Bank of India

If its not generic then its OK. I thot otherwise.
However is there any way to compare Avinav and the GIM puy?:p
He mite have bn an xceptional talent but otherwise a fresher is
not given the responsibilty of handling Treasury desks as soon as one joins a bank in general.

Avinav sir is an IMI senior non IIM B-school and so is GIM so its not just IIMs

and i guess i have shared enough profiles in the PM i sent to be not stated as exceptions

Infact a close friend of mine is joining CBI post MBA after 2 years of IT work ex 😃 at the stated profile :D

Anyways good to have some arguments 😃
Every where I read that Finance Jobs are very hectic.

Isn't there any finance profile that pays decently(not very high and not very low).......but is pleasant in terms of working hours.

I have no idea on your query as these things are totally personal and one needs to experience himself/herself to get this question answered

But I read one particular post 6 months back in PG describing the typical day of a banker ..

Why is it that finance graduates end up at banks? I am coming from banking sector (branch banking i.e. retail banking). I am going to persue Finance but I have no desire to enter banking sector where relationships matter more than your brain.
Can you guide me what are other profiles offered to Finance guys?

Check this http://www.pagalguy.com/discussions/how-to-select-specialization-25012382

Ya there are many engineering students who took finance as their specialization

Helllo all...

I have some doubts in Futures

Now what is this initial margin??? Does only buyer have to pay the initial margin in the initial margin account or the seller also have to deposit some amount ??? And Who gets the amount in that account in the end??

How this mark to market thing works??? I was of the opinion that futures are settled on their expiry date, but this thing confused me ???
Now suppose I sell a 1 month future to ABC in which underlying is 1 stocks which is now priced at 100, and my future price is say 120.
Now suppose in the example, day 1 the stock rises to 110, day 2 stock rises to 90, then how will be the mark to market thing be done??

While reading about the difference between futures and options, i came across these points
FUTURES OPTIONS
Price is zero, strike price moves Strike price is fixed, price moves.
Price is zero Price is always positive.
Linear payoff Nonlinear payoff.
Can some1 pls explain me these 3 points ???? How come futures price is zero ??

Every job after MBA involves stress and hardwork , but if one is interested in a field and likes one's profile , then working hours is not an issue

PS: High CTCs come with a price of extra work load and extra work pressure and pressure to perform

In every specialization you can achieve High CTCs , your final placement depends on your caliber and the college you join 😃

Hi
is I M Pandey best book to study FM?

Refer
http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/career-discussions/68219-why-finance-49.html#post3485025

Prasanna Chandra is one of the best in the country for FM.

If you want only the basics go for the fundamentals book
Fundamentals of Financial Management 0070700796: Book: Prasanna Chandra (9780070700796) Flipkart.com

If you are interested in higher level understanding, go for
Financial Management books 0070656657: Book: Chandra Prasanna (9780070656659) Flipkart.com

Chandra's book is very much aligned towards the CFA / FRM type of study where you are expected to think in terms of management / valuation. Pandey's book is more inclined towards the CA / BCom type of study.
Take your pick.

Absolutely correct analysis.PC is way better than I.M.P and K & J.
Theres one more....Corporate Finance by Ross Westerfield & Jaffe.
Contains lot of practical scenarios apart from theory and that helps
in better understanding of the topic.
