Guys
whats the difference between IRR and ROI ?
I am new to this thread. I want to know the career prospects in the financial economist designation. Is taking finance would help becoming financial economist?
@aastha09 said: Hi EveryoneSumone plz tell me:Wat are the prospects for a fresh CA in the field of IB and Asset Management? How does one choose between the two? As a Finance lover, both interest me equally..
Well i can tell u there is immense scope for a fresh CA in IB & Asset management but the trouble is breaking in..
Challenge 1# Right place....this includes your choice of city to work in & the company u get to work in(You dont have a choice there)
Challenge 2# Right contacts...you need people who can get you an interview in the companies
Challenge 3#...Right Skills...being a CA generally carries a burden of being an ACCOUNTANT but its the other skills which set you apart which includes (Industrial training, work ex, add on courses etc etc)
Challenge 4# Right kind of work...Since India is a preferred outsourcing destination for all companies including IB & AMCs you might get a load of calls for these roles but u have to know first whether you want to do it or not coz Job descriptions tend to be flowery & promise a lot but....
There are ways & means for all these challenges its all about how well u manage all of them
How to choose between one of them thats a difficult one...the imp question to ask here is where do you rate yourself in both the fields...i know u cant do it since u havent worked for either of them but read articles on the internet about a day in the life of a associate u might get a fair idea abt what to expect & then try making a choice!!!
Hope that helps
P.S. I m a CA as well & have been through this dilemma before....i chose IB & then moved to consulting

Probably an Economics major would be much more helpful....

Simply put IRR is the minimum rate of return you expect to earn to break even & ROI is the actual return on investment ...IRR is calculated when an investment decision is to be made & ROI is calculated to assess, evaluate & sometimes to justify your investment decision

Sir! First of all thanks for pointing out the biggest hurdle that i already dreaded i might be facing - breaking in!! It confirms that i hav to get into the muddy waters...
Second, it makes me happy to learn that ur actually my Senior - a CA. You hav already trodden on the path that am considering to take. I look up at u now as my Mentor (with ur permission ofcourse).
Now coming over to the Challenges:
Challenge 1: Plz help me further with this one. Currently, am a resident of NCR. So i guess Delhi is a good place to start with but still i hav no issues in moving around. Now the company, as u said i dont hav a choice there, but still can u name a few wherein i hav a better chance against the others. Better i put my efforts and resources at the right places.
Challenge 2: Contacts... I think i can take care of that. If I dont have one i'll try to create one.
Challenge 3: Now this ones gonna be tough. I can go for NCFM courses. Wud that help? Moreover, am through with my training and will hav 2 months time before the result is out. So is there a possibility that i can join as a Trainee during that period? If yes, where wud u suggest i shud apply? How about ICICI?
Challenge 4: Will try to gather more info on this.
Sir! Am very grateful to u for all ur help n looking forward to achieving my targets under ur guidance. Thanks a lot.

@iwantgovtjob said:Guyswhats the difference between IRR and ROI ?
IRR is that rate of return which equates ur npv of investment with the return also knwn as cutoff rate
roi is simply the rate of return on your capital employed
roi is simply the rate of return on your capital employed

@anmol29 Hi Amol,
There seems to be no systematic distinction between these three terms (investment management, portfolio management, asset management), many professionals will use them synonymously, though in individual companies there may be more specific conventions.
Hey
is there any diff between MCC and WACC
@iwantgovtjob I think Marginal cost of capital is basically addition to the cost due to the new project. WACC is for all projects running by company. There was a question on this in last year's CFA exam.Where they had asked about this. For new projects we take MCC to discount and for all projects debt and equity we take WACC.
hope u r satisfied with the ans.
ok so they are differenr right :0
also is there any diff between ROE VS ROCE
