Great thread with lots of important Info about MBA Finance. Thanks abhimukh dada for this thread.

I am an engineer , 2010 passout . currently working in a top IT company as a trainee.i am seriously considering CAT-2012.i am really interested in MBA Finance......

My question: What personal qualities are required for a successfull career post MBA-Finance?

i am asking this because i think i am an introvert and i think i cannot convince people easily. Otherwise , i love number crunching , no problem travelling , reading newspapers and magazines are my passion and i enjoy meaningful conversations , passable communication skills....etc

Please provide some guidance. Thanks in advance seniors!

Welcome to the community, friend!

Well, I guess many of us would have been in the same situation, eh? We deal more with computers than with people, and computers don't need to be convinced, so it gets a lot easier. But things can be learned along the way, amigo :D

Personal qualities required for a successful career post MBA-Finance include dealing with people & situations in effective manner. Well, I think they are the basic for every field. You also need self-motivation, perspiration, leadership skills & so on and on. You'll get to know more as you explore more!

You can read books on that or you could just go out and fill your bag with "experiences". Many times the pre-MBA experience itself grooms candidates up to some extent, more while MBA and the rest they get to learn post-MBA.

Keep exploring...!!!

Well u know what u dont need anything more than u already have to suceed in a career post-MBA Finance..the only thing to develop wud be interpersonal skills as thats what will keep u in a good stead in comparison to ur peers.

Agree with bournejason that we deal more with computers than humans but then u need to remember that ur colleagues & ur boss is human!!!!!!!!

Other than that all u need is smart thinking while application of ur skills which is gonna take u a long way....all other things like confidence, leadership wil come automatically if u r doin what u r supposed to do well.

I am keen to know which companies/banks, over the globe, are really considerable for Asset Mgmt., Wealth Mgmt., Investment Mgmt. & Security Analysis and Portfolio Mgmt. Also I am interested to know what are the roles offered post-MBA, in this field. Can I enter pre-MBA, in order to get experience?

As far as I know, Swiss Banks are really good for Asset & Wealth Mgmt. And all major Banks & I-Banks have these departments (from where they print money )

But I'd like to know which companies/banks have the edge.

Thanks, in advance!

What is the full form of RTR in accounting context.????

Hey Fellas!

Well I'm interested in pursuing a career in finance, preferably in securities research. But I guess my CV has got something which doesn't attract finance companies enough to shortlist me for the interviews :(
Not been able to get a summer internship in finance yet (thru campus), I'm looking at off-campus applications.

Can you guys guide me which companies do take interns through off-campus?

I know I can go to websites and apply there, but most of the companies don't take interns, so I just want to focus on only those which do take interns, that's why the question.

Hoping for a positive reply...

Thanks!!

Almost all finance companies i know take interns....the prob in trying toi get intership off campus is getting to the right person in the company coz most companies take interns thru campus only & most of the times ur CV might not make it to the HR

still there are ways around for everything..."Jack" bein topmost on that list.

ATB for ur search!!
