In 1995 Raymond Gilbert first became head of MetPath, a troubled Corning subsidiary that eventually became Quest Diagnostics. Raymond had dropped in on what was one of the largest clinical testing laboratories in the U.S. As he walked the halls, he found that almost no one would look him in the eye.
