I have a question. I've been reading here that the cutoff for male candidates for XLRI BM has been 96%ile (subject to clearing sectional cutoffs) for the last two years. Was it different the previous years ? If so, how different ?

I read that last year 1800 candidates got a call for BM. If the cut off was 94%ile that would mean the top 6% got calls. If the cut off was 96%ile then the top 4% got calls. Now if the cutoff was 94%ile and 1800 got calls that means only 30,000 candidates had taken the 2018 paper. If it was 96%ile that means only 45,000 had taken the 2018 paper. However the number of candidates who had taken the exam was reported to be 75,000+. Therefore we see massive difference in the number of candidates who are actually in the top 4/6% and the actual number of candidates called. If 75000 took the exam, the top 6% would be 45000 and top 4% would be 3000. There could be two possible explanations. The first is that the rest of candidates did not clear the sectional cut offs. The second explanation is that calls for the GD/ WAT PI are score plus profile based calls. Is there any other explanation? Can someone help me with this query. Thanks in advance! 😄
