the prospectus mentions that people with orissa domicile have higher weights assigned to their XAT and GD/PI scores but nothing as such about the number of reserved seats...

so roughly how many people *of non-orissa domicile* were called for gd/pi last year?

i don't have the exact numbers..and probably wud not even be able to get that...

the figures that i have state that 1/7th of the total people called for GD/PI had their venue as Bhubaneswar (the only place in orissa where the GP/PI was conducted).

vivek bhai wats the source of this info because looking at the batch profile i seriously doubt the data .....................

u can trust the authenticity of the data...i've mentioned the number of people who appeared for their GD/PI in Bhubaneswar...and i have never mentioned that anything can be directly inferred from this data....

indirectly ur post means that weight assigned with the xat and gd/pi score for orissa people is much more than wat we can think:shocked:   .............

any idea wats the exact weigtage for that ???????????????

i would say that the weights assigned are MORE...cannot say MUCH MORE...

to be true, i dont have any idea abt the weights...

i can understand and emphatize with the concern of the aspirants' concern about the quota thing...i went thru similar doubts last year...while i'd like to leave the job of answering ur queries to vits, i'd just say that in my 6 months or so out here, i haven't for once felt that someone who didn't deserve to be selected has been selected...weights or no weights, i'd dare say that quality is something which is and will never be compromised in XIM.

my sincere advice wud be to get the weights and quota thing out of ur heads and concentrate on ur preparations ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

agree - 100%! :)

trust me, quota or no quota - if u r good enuf for XIMB, you'll surely get selected (just as we got selected - btw, byzantine is from Guwahati & I from Kolkata)!

With No Offences to anyone out here,,,,,, I wanna say dat...
(1) While sitting inside that place,, i.e. XIM , u will b deemed biased in saying all what u hav said abt Quality, as U will never come to know abt a lot of those who applied to the college but cudnt make it the last year, for the reasons which i am gonna mention below.....

(2) As VT said,,,, That Only 1/7th of the interviews wer held in BBSR (d only place in orissa).... Now hypothetically, if we say that der were 700 GD/PI calls issued, then 100 of dem tuk place here,,, and now taking the case wherein, about 10-15 students wud b such who wud b non-domicile students/candidates, present at the time of interviews in Orissa,,,,and hence wud hav given their GD's out here....(say, Software engg...working in orissa,,, particularly BBSR..)
So 80 oriyas wud hav sat for ther process....Okay??
Now also quite high is the probability and wud hav happened for sure (as i know instances), that Oriyas, not present at that time in Orissa wud hav given The interviews in some other cities,,,,So while neutralizing the earlier effect, we can safely say that 100 oriyas sat for GD/PI's....
Now this shows that even while giving the calls, der has been a bias made as i am sure Oriya candidates by no means form 1/7th of all the interested and as u ppl term it DESERVING students for XIM in any given year...

And also as can be easily seen and verified,,,,THE CONVERSION RATIO !!! ,,,,,it is quite prejudiced again.....for a total of 120 students, der are 40-45 Oriyas in the present batch,,,,so it is needless for me to represent the figures in percentages for oriyas and non-oriyas....

(3) And NOw coming to the main point of ur saying that no one undeserving is here....
I fully agree wid u without doubt....But then how does it in any way say that all those deserving ones presently in college by any means better than those who r not here and were fully or without my exaggerating more capable than them....
I say this coz i know cases wherein a person getting much lower percentile got a GD/PI call, and also converted it,,,whereas another one who got much higher percentile, say about 6 points higher didnt even get a call,,,,leave alone converting it !!
So this is a clear cut case of Biasedness without calling it reservation.....

So, What wud u say to this point-of-understanding of mine.....I expect a college and its worthy students to tell complete facts based on non-prejudiced views....
And i once again say, dis is not to hurt ne1 out here or to prove my point....Its just clarification by a prospective student !! All in Good Spirits ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Hello cooldivay,

All your points are well taken.

I completely agree to the first point put forward by you. its true that we would never come to know whether a more deserving student didn't end up in XIMB. but the point mentioned by byzantine and seconded by me is that WE NEVER FELT that someone who didn't deserve to be selected has been selected. so, it is our personal opinion and we also never denied that there could not have been better students. Of course, there COULD HAVE BEEN - and this holds true for all B-Schools (including the IIMs).

Regarding the no. of domicile students who were shortlisted for the GD/PI, the prospectus clearly states the following - " Additional weights on XAT score and GDΠ score will be given to the candidates who are residents of the state of Orissa. This may lead to separate set of cut-off marks. "
I believe this is the only reason why around 15% of the people called for GD/PI are from the domicile category.

Regarding the conversion ratio, the above holds true again. But please get your figures correct. The figures mentioned by you regarding the no. of oriya students is grossly incorrect.

There is certainly a quota of reserved seats for the orissa domiciled candidates...there is no denial to that fact. In pure algebraic terms, lets call it X ( X being the maximum number of seats reserved for the domicile candidates). Now, there is a pre-decided cut-off for these candidates, which is set to match to standards followed in other leading B schools, and which ofcourse is lower than the cut-off for the non-domicile students. Now say, only Y no. of students are able to clear this cut-off, where Y
