CAT 2017: DI LR section toughest, say aspirants after Slot 1
MBA aspirants who took CAT 2017 in the first session today on November 26, 2017, claim the DI &LR (Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning) section was the toughest of the lot. PaGaLGuY spoke to a whole bunch of aspirants from across the country and this is what they had to say.
NIT Jaipur’s final year student Nitest Sethia said that the questions in DI & LR were tough to crack. “I took online coaching and also a good number of mock tests but DI & LR turned out difficult. However, the overall paper was moderate to easy. With decent preparation, anyone could attempt some 25 questions each in Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) and Quantitative Aptitude (QA),” Nitesh said.
The NIT Jaipur’s Student added that in comparison to CAT 2016, the paper today was far too time-consuming.
B.Tech Civil final year student from Lucknow Animesh Jain also found the DILR questions a little over the top. “Last year there were quite a few questions from LR, but this time almost 90% of the questions were from DI in that particular section. I could only solve around 13-14 questions because I found them to be very lengthy and solving took up much time,” said Animesh. Fond of photography and a district level champion in Taikwando, Animesh is expecting around 80 percentile in CAT 2017.
Suraj Tiwary from Kolkata, working as an engineer with TCS, was attempting CAT for the second time this year. “I solved mock every week on Sundays but couldn’t analyze them, because of my work pressure. I think because of this I messed up with DILR today. I was stuck with one particular question, which took almost 30 minutes of my time and I ended up solving only 9 questions in the section,” he said. Suraj is hopeful of converting, banking on his performance in the Quant and English sections.
Anil Kumar Das, a Mathematics Final year student from Muzzafarpur, Bihar told PaGaLGuY he had decided to attempt 23 questions in every group today. “But I ended up attempting 28 questions in English, 17 questions each in DILR and Quant.” And all this because DILR turned out to be tricky and took up much of his time.
Anil was however happy that this year he was allotted a test centre close to his home and travelling to the centre was easy going. Since CAT 2017 increase test centres, especially in semi-urban areas, we presume the hassles of commuting are probably less this year. Let us wait for some more inputs on this to confirm.
Stay tuned to PaGaLGuY the entire day today, we have lots of updates in store for you.
