All central universities to initiate professional counselling services for students


Some important and required resolutions were unanimously passed at the Conference of Central University Vice-Chancellors’, organised on February 18, 2016. Amidst the many student suicides in the country a much needed resolution was also passed. All central universities will implement a professional system of comprehensive guidance and counselling by experts, for students, to help in taking personal and professional decisions.

The conference was organised in Surajkund, Faridabad two days ago was
chaired by the Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Smriti Irani.  About more than 40 central university Vice-Chancellors’
were a part of this conference where several decisions were made, including
ensuring of a healthy, safe and congenial working
environment for women students and staff members, and to institutionalize a suitable
redressal mechanism for them.

Another resolution
will be implemented to ensure a healthy environment for the various university
communities. All central universities will appoint an Anti-Discrimination
Officer and a proactive mechanism for grievance redressals.

However, the resolution to ensure that
no student is deprived of Higher Education due to language limitation,
universities will provide instruction in English and an Indian language as
applicable to the state.
