All you need to know about Combined Geo-scientist and Geologist Examination
Every year, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) invites applications from eligible candidates for the Combined Geo-Scientist and Geologist Examination in order to recruit candidates for the post of Geologist, Geo-physicist, Chemist in the Department of Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines and for Junior Hydrogeologist in the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources. In this article, we bring you an over-view of the Combined Geo-scientist and Geologist Exam.
Educational Qualification:
The minimum qualifications required in order to be eligible for this exam are as follows:
(i) Master’s degree in Geology/Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a recognised university or
(ii) Diploma of Associateship in Applied Geology of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad or
(iii) Master’s degree in Mineral exploration from a recognised university (for posts in GSI) or
(iv) Master’s degree in Hydrogeology from a recognised university (for posts in CGWB)
Candidates appearing for the final exam for the requisite qualification can also apply for the Combined Geo-scientist and Geologist Exam.
Age Limit:
(a) For Geologist, Geophysicist, Chemist (Group ‘A’) in the Geological Survey of India:
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st January of the year in which the Examination is held.
(b) For Jr Hydrogeologist (Scientist ‘B’) (Group A) in Central Groundwater Board:
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 35 years on 1st January of the year in which the Examination is held.
The upper age limit for both these posts is relaxable by three years for OBC category and by five years for SC/ST category candidates.
Plan of Examination
The Examination has two different parts:
PART I – Written Examination
PART II – Interview/ Personality Test
The written examination includes four papers, each of 3 hour duration. While the General English paper (which is common for all posts) is worth 100 marks, the other three papers are worth 200 marks each.
Part II Candidates who clear the Writtenn Examination are called for the Interview/Personality Test. The Personality Test is worth 200 Marks.
