1. HDFC Bank
launches Chillr mobile app
i. HDFC Bank partnered MobME, a Kochi-based
technology firm to launch a mobile app Chillr, that allows users to instantly transfer money
to any contact in their phonebook.
ii. Chillr is a first-of-its kind application
that is linked directly to the customer’s bank account.
iii. HDFC Bank
customers can carry out up to 10 transactions a day with a maximum limit of ₹5,000 and can transfer
money to anyone in India, once they download the app and register themselves.
The monthly limit is set at ₹50,000.
2. France, Germany, Italy join China-led AIIB
bank
i. France, Germany and Italy have followed the UK in joining the
China-sponsored Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
ii. With joining of these countries, the total number of the bank’s member
states including India has gone up to 30. State-run Xinhua news agency quoted
top officials of France, Germany and Italy as confirming their participation in
the 50 billion dollar investment bank floated last year by President Xi
Jinping.
iii. The three European countries followed suit days after the UK became
the first Western nation to join the bank disregarding reservations expressed
by the US which raised concerns over its transparency.
Note: The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, an
international financial institution that will provide support to infrastructure
projects in Asia, is expected to be formally established by the end of this
year.
3. India,
Kyrgyzstan sign deal on textile, clothing
i. India and Kyrgyzstan today signed an MoU to strengthen bilateral cooperation
on textile and clothing.
ii. Both the countries have agreed to set up a Joint Working Group to
explore details of cooperation and the steps required to facilitate bilateral
trade and investment.
iii. The MoU also seeks to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of
Silk and Fashion.
4. WC knock-out
stage: South Africa face Sri Lanka tomorrow
i. South Africa will take on Sri Lanka in Sydney in the first quarterfinal
of the ongoing World Cup Cricket championship tomorrow.
ii. Proteas have never won a World Cup knockout match since their tournament
debut in 1992. Iii. However both the teams seem evenly matched with
South Africa, like Sri Lanka having won four and lost two of their pool
matches.
5. Now book train tickets 4 months in advance, From April 1
i. Now
travellers can book train tickets four months in advance as the Railways has
decided to extend the advance reservation period from 60 days to 120 days, with
effect from April 1.
ii. “The
advance reservation period for booking reserved tickets have been extended from
two months to four months now as announced in the Rail Budget 2015-16,” said a
senior Railway Ministry official.
iii. However,
there will be no change in case of the limit of 360 days for foreign tourists.
iv. Railways is
also planning introduction of ‘operation five minutes’ scheme under which
ticketless passengers can get regular tickets within five minutes of entering
station.
