1. India beat Bangladesh, enters into WC Semi-final
i. India entered into the World Cup semi-finals by defeating Bangladesh by 109 runs in Melbourne today.
ii. With the help of Rohit Sharma century 137 off 126 balls and Suresh Raina;s half century 65 off 57 balls India set the target of 302/6 against Bangladesh.
iii. Bangladesh was all out for 193 runs in 45 overs. India will meet the winner of Pakistan vs Australia Quarter Final in the Semis.
iv. This was MS Dhoni’s 100th win as captain, and 11th on the trot in World Cups.

2. Yahoo to shut its office in China
i. Yahoo has decided to shut down its operations and research center in Beijing, China.
ii. According to The San Francisco-based techcrunch.com website quoted Yahoo as saying in a statement: Today we informed our employees based in Beijing that we will be closing our office there.” Alibaba manages Yahoo’s operations in China, but the Beijing office was notable for being Yahoo-controlled.

3. China become world’s third-biggest arms exporter: SIPRI
i. According to the new study of Stockholm International Peace Institute (SIPRI) China has overtaken Germany to become third-biggest arms exporter in the World.
ii. The United States with 31 per cent global shares in 2010-14, has taken a firm lead as the major arms exporter globally, according to new data on international arms transfers launched today by SIPRI.
iii. Russia was second with a 27 per cent global share, 39 per cent of which went to India – the world’s largest arms importer overall.
iv. China took 11 per cent of Russia’s exports, followed by Algeria.
v. China supplies weapons to 35 countries, led by Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar, SIPRI said.
vi. According to the report of SIPRI “China’s share of the global arms market rose 143 per cent during the years from 2010-2014, a period during which the total volume of global arms transfers rose by 16 per cent over the previous five years.
4. Railway’s Kaya Kalp council will be headed by Ratan Tata
i. A new innovative council of Indian Railways, called ‘Kaya Kalp’, formed to turn around the ailing state-run rail network will be headed by noted industrialist Ratan Tata.
ii. Along with Ratan Tata, the Kaya Kalp council will also have two railway union leaders Shiv Gopal Mishra and M Raghuvaiah. iii. According to railway spokesperson “Ratan Tata will head the Kaya Kalp council, while general secretaries of All-India Railwaymen Federation and National Federation of Indian Railwaymen will also be the members of the council
5. Suresh Krishna appointed TVS Chairman
i. Suresh Krishna has been
appointed Chairman of TV Sundram Iyengar & Sons Ltd, the holding company of
the TVS group.
ii. Krishna, who turned 78
in December, is the grandson of TV Sundaram Iyengar, the founder of the group
and is the eldest member in his generation.
iii. The last chairman of
TVS & Sons was R Ramachandran, who passed away in December 2004. Since
then, the holding company has been without a chairman and Krishna has been
chairing the board meetings.
