1. Libya’s parliament rejects Peace deal proposed by UN
(i) Libya’s internationally recognised parliament recently refused to sign Peace deal proposed by the United Nation’s.
(ii) The deal was not acceptable for government since it included amendments made by Islamists without their consent.
(iii) Libya, has been a political unable nation since the western led forces toppled dictator Moammar Gaddafi, following which the country was divided in Islamist led forces based in Tripoli and internationally recognised government in Tobruk.
2. Union cabinet approved of a Treaty in Criminal Matters between Maldives and India
(i) Recently the union cabinet gave approval for a mutual legal assistance treaty in criminal matters between Maldives and India.
(ii) The treaty is signed with the objective to enhance effectiveness of both countries in investigation and prosecution of crime, through cooperation and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
(iii) Further, it is expected to provide a broad legal framework for bilateral cooperation with Maldives in the context of transitional crime and terrorism linked activities.
3. ICICI Bank tops the list of banks in terms of mobile banking transactions
(i) ICICI Bank, which is also India’s largest private sector lender as emerged as the bank with highest number of mobile banking transactions.
(ii) The data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) show that the lender recorded transactions worth Rs 6,885.36 crore in July, higher than any other bank.
(iii) ICICI Bank topped the list in June 2015, the highest amount of transactions through mobile stood at Rs 6,160.18 crore. Previously, HDFC bank topped the list, it now holds the second place, followed by Axis Bank and then SBI.
4. RCAM announces takeover of Goldman Sachs’ mutual fund business in India
(i) In a recent development, Reliance Capital Asset Management (RCAM) announced the takeover of global giant Goldman Sachs’ mutual fund business in India for Rs. 243 crore in an all-cash deal.
(ii) As per the deal, RCAM will acquire all 12 onshore mutual fund schemes of Goldman Sachs Asset Management India with total asset under management of Rs. 7132 crore.
(iii) The deal will also make Reliance MF the exclusive fund manager for the government’s ambitious Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) Exchange Traded Fund.
5. World statistics Day observed globally on October 20
(i) On October 20, the World Statistics Day was celebrated globally.
(ii) This year’s theme being the critical role of high-quality official statistical information in analysis and informed policy decision-making in support of sustainable development.
(iii) The United Nations adopted this resolution — resolution 69/282 to celebrate World Statistics Day every once in five years. This is the second statistics day to be celebrated.
6. V K Malhotra appointed as the head of All India Council of Sports
(i) Recently veteran sports administrator V K Malhotra was named as the head of the All India
Council of Sports by the Government.
(ii) Malhotra, had previously served as the President of Archery Association of India for 40 years.
(iii) Other former sports person in the council include fP T Usha, Limba Ram, N Kunjarani Devi, IM Vijayan, Baichung Bhutia and P Gopichand.
7. Virendra Sehwag announces retirement from International Cricket
(i) Former Indian opener Virendra Sehwag recently announced his retirement from InternationalCricket as well as Indian Premier League (IPL).
(ii) Sehwag, in so far had played 104 Tests, 251 one-day and 19 Twenty20 internationals, he was part of the Indian team when India won the world cup in 2011.
8. Yuki Bhambri becomes first since 2010 to enter top 100 ATP ranking
(i) Recently, Yuki Bhambri became the first Indian player since 2010 to figure in the top 100 in the ATP ranking.
(ii) Bhambri, ranks 99th which reflects his consistent progress over the previous months.
(iii) This feat also makes him only third player in a decade and a half to be in the list.
(iv) Of his recent ATP Challenger tournaments, Bhambri has won the Shanghai Challenger, he was a runner-up in Taiwan and ended a semifinalist at the $125000 Tashkent tournament.
