1. 
Earth Day Observed today across the globe

i. Earth day observed today across the globe which is celebrated on the 22nd April every year, to build support for environmental protection around the world.

ii. April 22 is the 45th anniversary of Earth Day. This year’s theme is “It’s Our Turn to Lead.”

iii. It was first celebrated in 1970, Earth Day is being observed in more than 192 countries today.

iv. More than one billion people participate in Earth Day campaigns every year and it is the largest civic event in the world, celebrated simultaneously around the globe by people of all nationalities, faiths and backgrounds.

2. Aroon Purie named Editor of the Year

i. The Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of the India Today Group, Aroon Purie was selected as the ‘Editor of the Year’ by the Jury for the International Advertising Association (IAA) India.

ii. In a awards ceremony on Saturday in Mumbai, he received the award from Union Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha.

iii. The International Advertising Association (IAA) is the world’s only globally focused integrated advertising trade association with membership representing advertisers, agencies and the media.

3. EEPC India inks pact with German body for promotion of SMEs

i. Engineering exporters’ body EEPC India has signed an agreement with the German Association, to boost business ties between India and Germany with particular emphasis on the Small and Medium-sized Businesses sector.

ii. According to the agreement, EEPC India and BVMW will exchange information on economic and commercial matters – trade, investment and technology transfer opportunities as well as trends.

iii. The two organisations will provide and facilitate assistance to visiting delegations to promote their business missions.

iv. Moreover, in order to substantiate and add value to the B2B portal launched by EEPC India, BVMW will put in best possible efforts to fix meetings for the Indian companies with German counterparts.

4. NTCA approved Rajaji National Park as India’s 48th Tiger Reserve

i. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has approved Rajaji National Park, Uttarakhand as India’s 48th Tiger Reserve.

ii. With this approval, now Uttarakhand has got second tiger reserve after the Corbett Tiger Reserve.

iii. The Rajaji National Park that came into existence in 1983 is spread across three districts of Uttarakhand namely Haridwar, Dehradun and Pauri Garhwal in an area over 820 square km. 
iv. The park is a home to 315 bird species, 40 species of reptiles and fish and 400 Asian elephants.

5. Govt. removed Indira, Rajiv names from two Hindi awards

i. The government of India has decided to discontinue two awards named after former PMs Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, conferred until last year on those doing outstanding work for promoting the progressive use of Hindi language.

ii. Instead, it has introduced two new awards scheme, offering the Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar and Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar for propagating the national language.

iii. ‘Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Puruskar’ renamed to Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar; to encourage the implementation of the official language policy.

iv “Rajiv Gandhi Rashtriya Gyan-Vigyan Maulik Pustak Lekhan Puraskar” renamed to Rajbhasha Gaurav Puraskar Yojana‘ to encourage writing of books in Hindi in various streams of modern knowledge/science and to promote the language.

v. Earlier, there were four categories of Rajbhasha awards, of which two were named after the two former PMs. The four awards have been merged into two schemes now.

6. Jaya Prada confered with Kalashree Award

i. Jaya Prada was conferred with Kalashree Award by the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Foundation for her contribution to the field of arts and entertainment.

ii. The actress took the glamour industry by storm with her simple looks and versatility. She is credited for films like “Tohfa”, “Aulad”, “Sargam” and “Sharaabi”.

iii. She has acted in over 200 films and also ventured into regional film industry like Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada.

7. Bhagwant Mann appointed as a leader in Lok Sabha of APP party

i. Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday appointed Bhagwant Mann, an MP from Sangrur.

ii. Bhagwant Mann replaced Dharam Vira Gandhi.

iii. The AAP has four members in the Lok Sabha and all of them are from Punjab.

8. Former Delhi Police Chief , appointed as Chief Adviser of Anti-Corruption & Security Unit of BCCI

i. Board of Control for Cricket in India appointed, former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar as chief adviser of Anti-Corruption & Security Unit (ACSU) of BCCI.

ii. He replaced Ravi Sawant. He will have a term of one year, that is, till 2016.

iii. Neeraj Kumar is a 1976 batch IPS officer of the AGMU cadre. Earlier, he has served as the Delhi Police commissioner for 13 months i.e. from June 2012 to July 2013.

9. Christopher Alan Bayly, pre-eminent western historian passed away

i. Christopher Alan Bayly, an expert on post-18th-century Indian history and British imperial history, passed away in Chicago due to heart attack.

ii. Bayly was well-known to a generation of history students in Indian universities, as his book Rulers, Townsmen and Bazaars.

ii. His death was announced by the Centre for South Asian Studies at the University of Cambridge. He was 70.

10. South Africa launched “Africa T20” Cup

i. To promote the cricket in Africa continent,
Cricket South Africa announced to launch Africa T20 Cup, to nurture young
talent in the continent.

ii. The tournament featuring Zimbabwe, Kenya,
Namibia, hosts South Africa and 12 CSA affiliates will run from 4 September to
4 October 2015.

iii. The tournament will be a World Cup-style
competition, consisting of four pools of four teams each with the winners of
each pool advancing to the semi-finals and eventually to the final.

11. J & K to host Federation Cup football Championship

i. Jammu and Kashmir will host this year’s Federation
Cup football championship in Srinagar.

ii. The Championship would be held in the third week
of August.


iii.
The various renowned teams like
Mohan Bagan, East Bengal, Dempo Sports Goa, Mumbai FC, Salgaokar Goa and other
top Football clubs from north east would be participating in the tournament.

iv. The venues would be Bakhshi
Stadium, Polo Ground and the newly constructed TRC Ground.
