1. RBI signs currency swap agreement of $400-mn with Sri Lanka

i. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today signed a currency swap agreement of $400-million with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

ii. The agreement will allow the island nation to draw the amount in dollars or euros in multiple tranches.

iii. The agreement, which will be valid for three years, is expected to further economic co-operation between the two countries, it added.

iv. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka can make drawals of US dollar or euro in multiple tranches up to a maximum of $400 million or its equivalent,” RBI said in a statement.

2. Gopaldas Neeraj gets national Kavi Pradeep award

i. Veteran Hindi poet Gopaldas Neeraj awarded with the first National Kavi Pradeep Samman by Madhya Pradesh government.

ii. The award carries a cash prize of Rs two lakh, a shawl and a citation.

iii. The award has been instituted by the Madhya Pradesh government in the memory of Kavi Pradeep, the renowned poet and songwriter who is best known for his patriotic song ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo’ written as a tribute to the soldiers who had died defending the country during the Sino-Indian War.

3. Bangladesh wins Women in Parliaments Award

i. Bangladesh has won the prestigious Women in Parliaments (WIP) Award for regional leadership in closing the gender gap in politics.

ii. Bangladesh has been placed among the top 10 countries in the world in reducing gender gap by the World Economic Forum.

iii. Women in Parliament Awards are given based on World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Reports.

iv. The award was received by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Shahriar Alam on behalf of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Women in Parliaments Summit held in Adis Ababa yesterday.

v. He dedicated the award to over 2 lakh women who were subjected to gender violence during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

4. India and Qatar sign 6 agreements to strengthen bilateral ties

i. India and Qatar today signed six pacts of understanding in key areas including Transfer of Sentenced Persons and Radio and Television.

ii. The MoUs were exchanged between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Qatari counterpart Dr Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah today.

The 6 agreements signed between the two countries include:

i. Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Persons – Under this agreement, Indian prisoners convicted in Qatar can be brought to India to serve the remaining part of their sentence. Similarly Qatari Citizens convicted in India can be sent to his home country to serve their sentence.

ii. Cooperation in the field of Information and Communication Technology: The pact would provide enhanced business opportunities for Indian IT industry in Qatar.

iii. The third MoU was signed between Ministry of Earth sciences and Qatar Meteorological Department for Scientific and Technical cooperation Qatar Meteorological Department under the Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar.

iv. The fourth MoU was inked between Diplomatic Institute of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qatar and Foreign Service Institute, MEA.

v. The fifth MoU pertains to cooperation in the field of Radio and Television.: This MoU is aimed at encouraging regular exchange of radio and TV programmes and material between Prasar Bharati of India and Qatar Media Cooperation.

vi. The final pact was signed for mutual Cooperation and Exchange of News.

5. Dolly Shivani Cherukuri name enter into India Book of Records

i. Dolly Shivani Cherukuri  (3 year old) of Andhra Pradesh became the youngest archer, entered the India Book of Records.

ii. She entered the list of records by scoring 388 points in the recurve segment in two distances, seven and five meters, at the Volga Archery Academy in Vijayawada.

iii. She shot 36 arrows each from five metres and seven metres to score 388 points in presence of judges from the India Book of Records and the Archery Association of India (AAI).

6. Akhil Sharma won The Folio Prize 2015 for novel Family Life

i. Akhil Sharma an Indian-American author , won The Folio Prize 2015 for his novel Family Life.

ii. His novel Family Life was one among the eight books shortlisted from 80 works of fiction and was chosen as the best fiction published in the UK in 2014 by the 235 writers and critics who constitute the Folio Academy.

7. Shaheed Bhagat Singh PG Institute for Horticulture Research & Education to set up in Amritsar

i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the setting up of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh PG Institute for Horticulture Research and Education at Amritsar, Punjab.

ii. The announcement was made on the occasion of 84th Martyrdom Day at the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, near Firozpur in Punjab.

8. 62nd National Film awards announced

i. The 62nd National Film Awards 2014 were announced on Tuesday by the Chairpersons of the three juries on Feature Films, Non Feature Films and Best Writing on Cinema.

ii. Kangana Ranaut won the best actress award for her powerful performance in “Queen” where Bollywood movies “Haider” and “Mary Kom” bagged key honours while Chaitanya Tamhane’s “Court” was named the best feature film.
