1. 
David Cameron elected PM of Britain for second term

i. British Prime Minister David Cameron won the Parliamentary elections in the United Kingdom and return for the second year term in office for his Conservative party.

ii. With all 650 seats declared, the Conservatives had 331, Labour 232, the SNP 56 and the Liberal Democrats eight. In practice 323 Members of Parliament is the number needed to form a majority government.

iii. Foreign Politicians have also congratulated UK Prime Minister David Cameron on the victory of his governing Conservative Party.

iv. Cameron, who would be the first Conservative prime minister to win a second term since Margaret Thatcher, vowed to counter the rise of Scottish nationalism with more powers for Scotland and Wales.

2. A P Shah to head high level committee on issue of MAT on FIIs

i. A high level committee on the controversial issue of payment of Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT) by Foreign institutional investors will be headed by Justice A P Shah, announced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Finance Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

ii. The committee will also look into few other tax issues, which are essentially legacy issues.

3. Achal Kumar Jyoti appointed as Election Commissioner

i. Achal Kumar Jyoti has been appointed as the Election Commissioner, filling one of the two vacant positions in the commission.

ii. He is the former Chief Secretary of Gujarat state.

iii. He is a retired IAS officer of the 1975 batch and earlier worked as the Managing Director of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited.

4. Paytm wallet now available as Google Now card

i. Mobile wallet Paytm has become the official launch partner of Google Now, an intelligent personal app that helps users find valuable information at any time.

ii. With this partnership, users with the Google Now application installed on their phones will now receive an update in “card” form whenever the balance in their Paytm Wallet changes.

iii. This is the first time Google Now has partnered with an Indian mobile application. According to Lakhotia, Indian users can expect more partnerships between Google and Paytm in the future.

iv. Google Now, launched in 2012, is a language interface that helps users organize their day to day lives using virtual cards.

5. PM launch Swami Chinmayananda centenary coin

i. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launch a coin on Swami Chinmayananda, commemorating his birth centenary.

ii. He recalled the pioneering work of Swami Chinmayananda in the field of education and social reform.

iii. He described Swami Chinmayananda, a Hindu spiritual leader who inspired the formation of Chinmaya Mission, as a “visionary, who saw the need to inculcate India’s great culture and spiritual traditions through the English medium, among an ‘elite’ class of people, who had moved away from this heritage”.

iv. Swami Chinmayananda was born on May 8, 1916.

6. YES Bank joins hands with Payworld to distribute prepaid cards

i. India’s private bank YES Bank has tied up with Payworld to distribute co-branded open loop prepaid cards to customers.

ii. “Payworld will be distributing the Yes Money Prepaid Cards through its Business Correspondent Agent Network in partnership with Yes Bank,” Payworld said in a statement.

7. Mhairi Black youngest parliamentarian of UK

i. Mhairi Black 20 year old girl, became the youngest lawmaker of Britain.

ii. She is a member of the
Scottish Nationalist Party and defeated Labour’s Douglas Alexander with 17864 votes,
in the seat of Paisley and
Renfrewshire South. Alexander (47) was the opposition Labour’s foreign policy
spokesman.

iii. She
made history by becoming the youngest lawmaker in UK history since the 17th
century. In 1667, after being returned as knight of the shire Christopher Monck
took his place in Parliament when he was just 13.

8. Amalendu Guha, an eminent
historian passed away

i. An eminent historian and social scientist Amalendu Guha
passed away following old age ailments at Ulubari, Guwahati. He was 91

ii. He wrote in English, Assamese and Bengali languages.
iii. His
research work Planter Raj to Swaraj: Freedom Struggle and Electoral Politics in
Assam is considered as greatest among his creations.
