Department of Income Tax launches Project Insight
- The integrated platform will play a key role in widening of tax base and data mining to track tax evaders. It will use Permanent Account Number (PAN) to track and analyze various transactions related to tax payers.
- It will use data mining, big data and analytics to scoop out tax evaders from social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
- It will help in catching tax evaders in a non-intrusive manner using technology and without traditional intrusive methods like search and seizure.
- The reporting compliance management system of project will ensure that third party reporting by entities like banks and other financial institutions is timely and accurate.
- The data will be shared with other government departments.
J S Khehar is new Executive Chairman of NALSA
- Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar, a judge at Supreme Court has been appointed as the new Executive Chairman of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA)
National Legal Services Authority (NALSA)
- NALSA is an institution under Legal Services Authorities Act 1987.
- Its purpose is to provide free legal services to eligible candidates and to organize Lok Adalats for speedy resolution of cases. It acts to reduce burden of judiciary.
- The Chief Justice of India is patron-in-chief of NALSA while second senior most judge of Supreme Court of India is the Executive-Chairman. Similar mechanism at state and district level also headed by Chief Justice of High Courts and Chief Judges of District courts respectively.

Marrakech Action Proclamation for Our Climate and Sustainable Development adopted
Key Features of Proclamation
- Countries affirm their commitment to full implementation of the Paris Agreement which also reflects respective capabilities in light of different national circumstances of countries.
- The countries called for an increase in the volume, flow and access to finance for climate projects, alongside improved capacity and technology.
- Developed Country Parties reaffirmed their $100 billion mobilisation goal.
Doha Amendments to the Kyoto Protocol
- Doha Amendments were made at Doha climate conference in 2012. It was made for extending the obligation of the developed countries under Kyoto Protocol to make targeted cuts in their greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions by 2020.
- Doha Amendments are important because developing countries are putting pressure on developed countries not to ignore their commitments under Kyoto Protocol which ends in 2020 and after which Paris Agreement come into existence.
- Unlike the Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement is not legally-binding and it does not assign any emission cut targets on any country. Under Paris Agreement, every country decides for itself the actions that it wants to take to fight climate change.
November 20 is Universal Children’s Day
- United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the declaration of Rights of Child on November 20, 1954. Since then this day is celebrated as Universal Children’s Day.
- Rights of Child include right to life, to education, to health, to play, the right to family life as well as to be protected from violence, and not to be discriminated, and to have their views heard.

- It is a first Super Series Premier win for Sindhu.
- Sindhu defeated Sun Yu of China to win the title
- Sindhu is the third non-Chinese woman to win the competition since it started in 2007. Th other two women are Malaysia’s Wong Mew Choo in 2007 and Saina Nehwal in 2014.
