Director Speak: Interview of Dr Rajeev Bhardwaj from Accurate Institute of Management & Tech

What are the top challenges that you want to solve today for your institution?

One of the greatest challenges today is to provide the right career option to the students, the objective of management schools was to provide necessary inputs, to transform the students into entrepreneurs, unfortunately, this did not happen, as most of the management grads, started looking for plum jobs in the industry. The challenge today, is to reverse the trend, and ensure that a sizeable number become entrepreneurs.

The second challenge is the institute industry partnership. Without stronger bonding between the institute and industry, the basic objective of the program will fail. Better linkages will make the program more relevant for the industry, and ensure better career opportunities for the students.

Would you choose to be called an academician or an administrator? Why?

As we move towards the top managerial level, the role of academics declines, and the role as administrator becomes more prominent, as now the Director becomes responsible for the whole gamut of activities, like, admissions, academics, placements and industry interactions etc. Despite the time constraints, the Director, needs to put the academician’s hat, as he has to be close to the students and get their feedback on regular basis.

How would you want to solve the problem of Quality Faculty in Management Education? Can we follow a framework for the same?

The problem of quality faculty is one of the biggest constraints in providing quality education to students. The faculty has to be caught young and nurtured, like the moment the student passes out, and gets NET/JFR qualified, he should be selected, as Research Associate and given the facilities to pursue his Ph.D, Faculty with 5-10 yrs of Industry experience, need to be preferred. Faculty should be encouraged to contribute research papers on regular basis, and a 2 month break during summers to take up a project from industry is advisable.

What’s your biggest achievement as a part of this Institution?

I am a team player, and my biggest achievement is that I have been able to form a team, whom I can trust upon. I have also been the recipient of the following awards:

  • awarded “The Innovative Director of the Year” by Global Education Excellence awards 2013.
  • awarded “Most Distinguished Educator Award” by Royal Brands and Delhi AAJ Tak.
  • awarded with “Distinguished Educator Award” (2013) by MBA by CHOICE by the Ambassador of Ukraine.
  • awarded with “Education Leadership Award” (2012) by Amar Ujala in Mumbai in World HRD congress.

According to you, what’s the ideal profile of a candidate whom you would accept into your program?

The candidate has to be inquisitive, and a learner, he should be a team player, and creative. The communication skills of management aspirant need to be good and should have a strong grasping power.
