Guidance For Gate 2018 Civil Engineering

GATE exams are held for various disciplines. Civil engineering (CE) is one of the most common ones out of the many. Lakhs and lakhs of students appear for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) every year. It goes without saying that GATE exams are tough. Only some students of the many that appear pass the exam with good scores.

If you are one of the many students appearing for GATE civil engineering exam, then here are some tips to help you study better and crack the exam:

Careful analysis of the syllabus

The biggest mistake that you can make while preparing for GATE CE exam is to simply stick the syllabus without actually going through it. Most students do not take the time to study the syllabus before they begin preparations. You should avoid that mistake if you wish to crack the GATE exam. You should make it a point to understand the contents of the syllabus, make notes of the topics you are familiar with and create a schedule to finish the course at least one week before the exam.

Plan your studies

Students appearing for the GATE CE exam usually take one day at a time. Although you may feel that it is a good strategy, there are cons to it. If you take one day at a time, you do not really have goals to work for. Furthermore, you may not be giving your all to your preparations. However, if you wish to crack the GATE CE exam, then you should create goals for every day. You should consider your strengths and weaknesses to plan your studies.

Routinely Revisions

Another thing that you need to keep in mind is that you will need to make sure that you revise what you study. Apart from a full-course revision right before your exam, you need to make sure that you revise what you have studies from time to time. Depending on your comfort, you can dedicate weekends to revise whatever you have studied so far or find an hour or so every day to revise your studies. Apart from this, you can also make a habit of revising your work by the end of the day before you wrap up your studies. This will help you retain all of what you have covered so far and will also help you to find out if you have studied well for your exams.

Analyze the exam pattern

The best way to understand how to study is to study the exam pattern. If you are concerned about your studies not being up to the mark, make sure that you study the exam pattern and find what out how the marks are divided on the papers. This will help you find solutions to your studying difficulties and will allow you to understand which topics are important. Other than this, studying the exam pattern will help you to make dedicated efforts towards your studies. Some things that you should check out are:

Invest in some good books
When you look for study material, make sure that you understand what the book is saying. Usually, the students purchase the books that everyone is studying from. Although that may seem like a good tactic, you may not find what you are looking for. As you know, our minds work differently. What is easy for your friend may not be easy for you too. Consider how well the book is written and consider if you understand what the book is saying or not. Purchase the books that make studying for the exam easier for you.

Do not lose your mind over the upcoming exams

Although studying can be managed, it is the mind that cannot be. Many students find it hard to focus on their studies as the exam nears. If you feel that you are getting anxious, you should take some time off and cool your mind. An uneasy mind will not allow you to study properly. To calm down you could practice yoga, or you could go out for a run. Exercise will always make you feel lighter, happier and will help you to concentrate on your studies better.

With the above-mentioned points in mind, remember that you should also take some mock tests to test your knowledge before the exam.
