IMT Hyderabad Student Corner #5: Swetha Chilla (Batch 2016-18)

Once I got selected at IMT Hyderabad, a hundred questions ran in my mind. What course would I choose? Which domain is relevant? Will there be pressure and how competitive would it be? Two years seemed to be a long time then.

But when I reached the campus, I was one amongst 200 students from various parts of the country ranging from Delhi to Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan to Madhya Pradesh to Kolkata, which made this place a mini India.

The lush green 30-acre campus is like a perfect movie set with everything at its place – from ‘Brick and Stone’ buildings to beautiful rocks on one end for a breath-taking view of sunset to the sight of airplanes landing in the Airport nearby. The infrastructure in the campus is amongst the best in the country with Air-conditioned and Wi-Fi enabled Lecture Theatres, Classrooms, Auditorium and an open-air Amphitheatre.

For a sports enthusiast, the campus provides ample amenities. IMT Hyderabad campus boasts of grounds and courts for cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, lawn tennis and table tennis. It has a modern spacious gym with a range of equipment – for students to unwind and to stay fit.

Faculty in the college are both academically experienced and Industry veterans. Professors here are alumni of Ivy league colleges from across the country (IIMs, IITs, XLRI etc.,) and also of various Foreign Universities. It is a privilege to be a part of their classes.

The learning process involves class participation, discussions on cases from Harvard Business Review, debates, presentations, group assignments and project presentations. 30% of every course is taken up by Domain experts from Industry. This helps in holistically understanding the subject as well as contemporary topics.

Another interesting program at IMT Hyderabad is the ‘Leadership Series’ conducted where exceptional minds talk about various issues, changes and challenges in the market. The speakers range from academicians like Dr. Vijay Govindarajan, Dr. Jagadish Bhagawati to CEOs, CFOs and bureaucrats.

IMT-H has a very active student life with events every biweekly and major events every 2 months. Students celebrate every major festival with equal reverence here, in their ‘home away from home’. Different Clubs (Domain specific, Cultural, Entrepreneurship, Social Cell etc.,) and Committees (Media Relations, Alumni Relations, Mess etc.,) organize various events across the year which are student driven under the guidance of faculty. Food stalls of sponsors and DJ nights are most-awaited during these events.

After being at IMT Hyderabad for 2 years, I can vouch for its quality of education, curricular and extra-curricular activities and an overall value addition to the student. At the end of 2 years, not only does your academic qualification change from Graduate to Post Graduate, you as a person will evolve too.
