JEE 2016: Important instructions for seat allocation process

Eligible candidates who qualified in JEE Mains and Advanced 2016 will be allowed to register and fill-in their programme choices on the official Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) portal from June 24 to 28, only. Students should note that if they do not register within the specified time window, they will not be able to seek admission for the 2016-17 academic year.

All students who appeared in JEE Mains 2016 are eligible to
register for seat allocation in NITs, IIITs, and other Government Funded
Technical Institutions (GFTIs) except for IITs and ISM. Candidates who were
declared qualified in Advanced 2016, are eligible to register in all the 92
participating institutions.

Prof KV Krishna, Chairman, JEE Advanced 2016 Unit, said, “Because we
received a lot of queries from students about the seat acceptance fee, and the
procedure to secure admission in IITs, IIITs, NITs etc, we released the details
on our website. However, we will release the information brochure for JoSAA
2016 on the portal by tomorrow, June 20.”

As announced on the JEE Advanced portal on June 19, when
candidates are allotted a seat, they must pay the seat acceptance fee and get
their documents verified for provisional seat acceptance at any reporting
centre.

Seat acceptance fee for General category students is Rs 45,000
and for those belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward
Classes, Non Creamy Layer, or Person with Disability, the fee is Rs 20,000.
Students can pay the seat acceptance fee either through e-challan or SBI Net
Banking.

If a student does not want the allocated seat and has however
paid the seat acceptance fee, they will get a refund once the seat allocation
process is over. Krishna added, “While registering for the seat allocation
process, candidates will fill a separate form about their bank details so that
when they claim for a refund, the procedure is hassle free.”
