Latest advancements in technology & how they’ve shaped up
Technology keeps on changing every microsecond and along with that, it also changes the way we live. It is no longer a man’s or woman’s world now, rather it has become technology’s world. Technology controls us each day. No longer do you wish to perceive a personal touch, rather you are happy with the touchscreen mobile. So, this technology, which was designed to bring the world close, does so through the virtual world, and in reality the gap increases between people.
Not to forget, even though technology has some disadvantages… its advantages are innumerable and can’t be listed completely. Some of the latest developments are:
Hybrid cloud computing: Cloud computing has evolved immensely in recent years. Companies have realized that they require different types of cloud services in order to meet a variety of customer needs. Economics and speed are the two greatest issues driving this market change.
The public cloud is a set of hardware, networking, storage, services, applications, and interfaces owned and operated by a third party for use by other companies or individuals. For example, electronic mail. Therefore, a cloud provider can optimize and manage the environment so that it is best suited to support a large number of customers, even if they save any number of messages.
A private cloud is a set of hardware, networking, storage, services, applications, and interfaces owned and operated by an organization for the use of its employees, partners, and customers not open for public consumption. Thus, a private cloud sits behind a firewall, for a focus on governance, security, and compliance.
A hybrid cloud is a combination of a private cloud combined with the use of public cloud services where one or several touch points exist between the environments to create a unified, automated, and well-managed computing environment. This is the new definition of corporate computing. A hybrid cloud is an environment where the private and public services are used together to create value.
Dark web: The dark web, as a part of the Deep Web, never gets indexed in any search engine. It was intended to include small, peer to peer, friend to friend networks and some public organizations and institutions as well, but the results are really heart-breaking. People have started to use this encrypted form of the Web in a manner no one could imagine. The most frequently found content was child pornography, black markets and botnet operations. Many other sites found the presence of restricted political discussion. Sites associated with bitcoin and fraud mail order services are the most happening in this category. Many hackers sell their services there individually or as a part of groups. Hitmen are hired through this. Drugs and other illegal services are carried out normally. One even found a live murder once on the dark web.
Internet of things: The Internet of Things (IoT) is basically how different electronic devices, appliances, software, etc. interact with the physical world over the Internet. It tells us about how these are sensed and controlled remotely through the network. IoT and IoE (Internet of Everything) is here and ever-growing. The objects connected can be anything: your watch, refrigerator, television, fan, light, etc. These devices are able to collect and transmit data via the Internet, contributing to our big data filled world.
ATMs are considered as the first IoT objects. This year, we have 4.9 billion IoT connected objects. Around 1.5 billion smartphones were shipped in the year 2014 and the smartphone users’ count will reach a rocking 6 billion by 2020. IoT connects many devices we have in our homes and will soon connect even more, from smart thermostats to smart fridges. Google has already acquired the smart thermostat maker company. By 2020, most vehicles too will be connected via the Internet. To everyone’s astonishment, Internet connected clothing is also coming up nowadays. Machine to machine connections are growing each day. Having a connected kitchen is the next big aim. In fact all this has helped increase annual global GDP by a tremendous amount. The IoT is only going to grow. The IoT is here and here to stay…
3D Touch: One of the latest inventions in the new iPhone 6s and 6s+ is the 3d Touch: ‘a new and cool way to interact with your phone’. 3D Touch includes three types: Peek, Pop, and Quick Actions. In some ways, it is as good as a right click for the iPhone. If you press some links, they show you peeks: for example, a link in Apple’s Mail shows you a preview of a webpage from Safari. But pressing and holding a link in Twitter brings up a share menu. Also, if you slide your finger up, then the preview stays visible, and a menu appears below it. It’s all very interesting.
Driver less Cars: Google has presented a new concept for their driverless car that requires neither a steering wheel nor even a pedal. It uses a laser which allows the vehicle to generate a detailed 3D map of its environment. The car then takes these generated maps and combines them with high-resolution maps of the world, producing different types of models, which helps it to drive it on its own.
It still has a lot of limitations. It is not suited to be driven in rain and snow as of yet. Also, it does not follow temporary traffic lights. One more big limitation is that in case of an accident, it will either save the ones inside the car or those on the road.
So, even though technology has advanced so much, it hasn’t reached its zenith yet. By 2020, people are expecting technology to reach new heights and solve the current issues that we are facing and make our lives even more comfortable and soothing than now.
