Management education in India A FLAME perspective
FOUNDATION FOR LIBERAL AND MANAGEMENT EDUCATION (FLAME) – FLAME SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
POST GRADUATE PROGRAM
Management Education in India evokes images of professionalism, competencies, capabilities, and excellence. There is a vision of breaking new frontiers of knowledge, identifying appropriate state of the art skills and generating relevant attitudes. Management Education is associated with efficiency, effectiveness, quality, productivity and taking the Indian organizations into the globalized economy in liberalized India. Management Education also evokes images of premier management institutions like Indian Institutes of Management with world-class faculty, brilliant students – the intellectual capital and resource of the country, guaranteed jobs and high flying and high living life styles of the young professionals. The media splash and cover the placement activity of the management institutions in general and IIMs in specific where the young graduates are being wooed by the national and international recruiters to the fast track career path to become the future CEOs of national and global organizations.
FLAME also offers Management Education as a unique discipline as compared to the disciplines of science, arts and commerce. Management Education is all about real life situations of work settings, business environment both national and global, organization strategies, structure, systems and processes, the multiple functions, leadership roles and people across levels of the organization and their dynamic interplay with each other. FLAME also anchors its management education in the context of the social, cultural, economic and business realities of the country as well as the present times of growth and vibrancy of the youth. Moreover, management education also constantly deals with embedded and emerging business and people realities. These issues have to be addressed and resolved in the context in which they are occurring. Borrowed solutions, theories and theoretical frameworks and concepts available through research and literature may not really work. As such, management education and its curriculum and content are closely linked to the context in which the issues are to be addressed and to the industry, its focus and changes occurring in the industry and the country.
FLAME offers a two year residential post graduate program anchored in Liberal Education (LE). This means that the students of management also take courses in humanities, social sciences and performing arts. FLAME has designed and structured its management curriculum with global courses wherein UGs and PGs jointly study philosophy, psychology, sociology, comparative religion, managing multi cultures and similar other courses.
