NEET 2016: Second round of choice filling for 1886 vacant seats under 15% AIQ admission to begin today

The choice filling and locking of seats for the second round of counselling will begin today, September 9, 2016, through the official website of MCC (Medical Counselling Committee). After the first round of seat allotment and admission for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government medical and dental colleges across the country, 1,886 seats are still vacant (162 BDS and 1,724 MBBS seats). A total of 3,521 MBBS and 299 BDS seats were available to the students at the beginning of round 1 of seat allotment.

Maharashtra has the highest number of vacant seats (239) for the second round of seat allotment followed by West Bengal (215), Uttar Pradesh (203), Rajasthan (159) and Karnataka (147).  

According to the MCC website, out of the total of 1886 seats, 1,382 seats remained vacant in the country due to non-joining of the medical aspirants in the first round of seat allotment, 502 seats remained vacant due to resignation and 2 due to cancelation of seats. The list of available seats in the medical and dental colleges across the country is available on the official website of MCC.

Important Dates for Second Round of Counselling

·       September 9 and 10: Exercising of choices and locking of seats

·        September 11: Second round seat allotment process begins

·       September 12: Announcement of seat allotment for second round

·        September 13 to 20: Reporting of students to allotted colleges

Medical aspirants who have been allotted seats in the medical/dental colleges through the second round of counselling must report to the respective colleges with their documents. Seats that remain vacant after the second round will be transferred to the state quota on September 30, 2016.
