NIT Nagpur- as famous as the oranges

National Institute of Technology, Nagpur

Established as the Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur in 1960, it was merged with the State College of Engineering and was called The Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering. In 2002, the institute was made a National Institute of Technology and became the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur (VNIT).

There are three main entrances to the 220 acres (89 ha) campus located near Ambazari Lake in Nagpur. The campus has over 12 men’s hostels and 2 women’s hostels. Housing for faculty is also available. The campus is fully networked using fiber optic cables. There is a health-care center on campus. The campus is a green zone, which bans smoking and the usage of powered vehicles. The campus has on display Mikoyan MiG-27 a ground attack aircraft decommissioned from Indian Air Force. The campus has auditoriums, a computer center, sporting facilities, cafes, coffee shops, a co-operative store and a post office. There are two bank branches on campus, the State Bank of India and the Canara Bank.

Studying at VNIT

Undergraduate programs are offered in Architecture and in the 8 disciplines of Engineering. The Engineering programs are usually of 4-year duration, while Architecture has a 5-year program. VNIT accepts an incoming freshman class size of up to 798 students.

· B. Tech. in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering

· B. Tech. in Mining Engineering

M.Tech degree is offered in 16 disciplines along with B.Arch and Masters in Pure Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Maths), PhD degrees are also offered.

Life beyond the classroom

Axis is the science and technology fest while Aarohi is the music and cultural festival at VNIT. Consortium is an entrepreneurship and business management event organized by the college. Some of the other clubs are Prayaas which is a social welfare club, Astronomy Club, Iridescence the art club, Aawaz is a debate club, Lynx  a club for adventure enthusiasts.

Placement History

During the academic year 2013-14, around 90 companies visited the campus and 480 jobs were offered to UG & PG students.
