MHT CET 2017: Physics paper tough, Chemistry and Maths easier, say aspirants

The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Maharashtra conducted the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) 2017 today, on May 11, at test centres in 36 districts across the state. PaGaLGuY spoke to aspirants who took the examination to find out how the MHT CET 2017 questions turned out to be. MHT CET is conducted for admission of aspirants in the BE (Bachelor of Engineering), BTech (Bachelor of Technology) and BPharm(Bachelor of Pharmacy) courses across the state.

First time MHT CET engineering aspirant Farhat Khot from Navi Mumbai found Physics to be quite tricky and lengthy. “Although the questions were not that tough, it took a lot of time to solve them, resulting in loss of time for the questions in Chemistry to be solved. Questions in both Mathematics and Chemistry were quite straight forward and easy,” stated Khot. Scoring 80 marks in JEE Main, Khot missed the chance to appear for JEE Advanced by a whisker and decided to shift his focus towards MHT CET.

In MHT CET, Paper I deals with Mathematics and Paper II consists of Physics and Chemistry together. Both Paper I and Paper II are necessary for aspirants applying for engineering courses and carries 100 marks each.

Pattern of MHT CET 2017:

Paper Total Subject No. of MCQs Mark(s) per question Marks
Paper I  Mathematics  50 2 100
Paper II  Physics  50 1 50
Chemistry 50 1 50
Paper III Biology (Botany) 50 1 50
Biology (Zoology) 50 1 50

Abhay Deepak Pathole, another engineering aspirant from Amravati, Maharashtra also found Physics to be a little difficult. “Questions related to derivations in Physics were in abundance and it was not directly formula-based. But, I managed to complete all the 100 questions of Physics and Chemistry in Paper II on time, thanks to the time management skills I acquired during my preparation for the examination,” said Pathole. He further asserted that the examination was conducted without any fuss at the centre and that discipline was maintained throughout.

Aspirants needed to solve 100 questions in Physics and Chemistry in 90 minutes.

A number of candidates who take JEE Main and qualify for JEE Advanced, still take the MHT CET for keeping their options of getting a college in the state open. Pathole is no exception. “I will write my JEE Advanced paper on May 21, preparation of which are on. But, I did not want to let go of the option of securing a seat at any state engineering college and thus I appeared for MHT CET,”  added Pathole.

Almost 4 lakh candidates took part in the MHT CET 2017 across the state.
