Prof. Rajiv Dwivedi, Amity Gwalior: THE POWER OF GENERATION Y and Z

Over last few years the concept of generation Z has come very prominently. This is one of the most talked about word across the globe and also one of the most searched upon term on Google, not only by other generation people but also by the generation Y and Z themselves although it’s a paradox in itself that they are “searching themselves”. I have personally interacted with hundreds of people who have been talking about the various shortcomings of this new generation. I do agree that there are few challenges which this generation has. Like this generation Z lacks patience, lacks emotional stability, believes in short cuts, wants freedom and a new word called “space” and are over ambitious. But we forget one very important thing that they possess certain strength that our generation or the older generation lacks. Strengths like multitasking, technology savvy, speed, risk taking approach and the art and passion of enjoying life. Today the strategic approach towards achieving excellence is not to focus on your weakness but it is to focus on your core strength.

As per the latest statistics India will have the biggest work force and the youngest workforce across the globe which will consist of “Millennials” ie generation Y and generation Z taken together. This means that India will be the most young country for the coming one and half decades. Now if this generation Y and Generation Z realizes their strength and focuses on their strength, they can turn around the things in their favour. With their core strengths like multitasking, technology savvy, speed, risk taking approach and the art and passion of enjoying life instead of taking shortcuts they can rather take “smartcuts” and they can become “smartgenerations” of the globe. I am confident that if this Generation realizes its hidden potential, they can create new milestones for India and Indians of tomorrow.
