Pune engineering student commits suicide, no suicide note found
A student of the Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCoE), Pune, was found dead in his hostel room.
Ranjit Chande, a third year Mechanical Engineering student, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his hostel room on May 23, 2016.
“Chande did not open his room on May 22 during the attendance call at 10 pm. As the exams are going on, we thought he had slept off and did not disturb him further. But when he did not open his door on Monday for attendance, we peeped in from the grills above the door and found him hanging from the ceiling fan,” said Somnath Rau Kasar, hostel in-charge, PCCoE.
He has not left behind a suicide note. PaGalGuY spoke to an official from the Institute to inquire if Chande was upset about his grades or had some other worries but found out that there was nothing of that sort. He said, “Ranjit was an average student, he scored 62% in the last semester and he regularly attended lectures.”
“It came as a shock to us. His hostelmates said that Ranjit did not speak much and kept to himself. Investigations are on, and we hope to find the reason behind his suicide soon,” said an official.
As soon as the college authorities were notified about the incident on May 23, they informed the Dehu Road Police Station. An official from the police station, said, “He was found hanging in his hostel room, we don’t suspect any foul play, but we are investigating the case further. We handed over the body to his family on May 25, 2016, after the post-mortem.”
