SIOM: National Summit ‘TATTV ’08’ held on Oct 4-5

The first day started off with sessions from speakers like Mr Sachin Kulkarni, VP, Financial Services, Capgemini, USA; Ms Nadia Chauhan, Director, Parle Agro Ltd; Mr Pankaj Gupta, General Manager – Operations & Supply, Hindustan Unilever Limited; Mr H S Banerjee, Managing Director, Epcos India Limited; to name a few. The participants discussed about the various issues of global players and gave solutions in the form of Channel Management Model & Multi-channel product catalogue. The speakers highlighted the rising importance of the IT industry and the challenges it faces. Mr. GR Gangadhar (Director, Forbes Marshall) opened the discussion by explaining a Balance Score Card and its various aspects viz, Finance, Customer, Internal Business Processes and People in business. He elaborated the RACI (Responsibility, Accountability, Consult, Information) Matrix, Product and Process Quality concepts like Six Sigma and DMAIC. Concepts of metricised objectives; customers focus (problem resolution, partnership resolutions) were also touched upon. The day ended on a note from Mr Ranjan Nigam (Chief Manager, Indian Oil Corporation Limited), enumerating the changing scenarios and opportunities available for young Indians today, which they should harness and use for the inclusive growth of the Indian economy.

The second day was about entrepreneurship, inclusive economic growth and striking the correct balance between business and environment. Participants included Mr Rajnikant Patel, Ex-Managing Director & CEO, Bombay Stock Exchange; Mr Muralidhar Rao, President and COO, NIS Sparta; Mr M.S. Unnikrishnana, Managing Director, Thermax India; Dr Ram Babu, Managing Director, CantorCO2e, India. The speakers discussed the use of natural resources, reusability, recycling and disposal methods and implementation of environment safety norms in business. Mr Prashant Khankhoje (Head projects and corporate affairs, Suzlon Energy Ltd) mentioned the need of a shift towards clean and efficient alternative fuel typically- wind. Also, Mr Prabhat Pani, Chief Executive Officer, Ginger Hotels, Roots Corporation Limited, gave insights on the evolution of the concept of Ginger Hotels along with the ‘Add-Reduce-Eliminate-Enhance’ model used to develop Ginger Hotels.

Tattv a08 had a special feature this year in the form of moderators, who conducted and concluded sessions with brainstorming and Q&A; rounds. They laid emphasis on the strength of the Indian youth, the skewed distribution of income and its effect on costs of products and services. The moderators were from various national newspapers and magazines viz. Mr G Chandrashekhar, Associate Editor, The Hindu Business Line; Mr A Thothathri Raman, Consulting Editor, Business India and Mr Tamal Bandyopadhyay, Mumbai Bureau Chief, Mint. Shrirang Sarda, Managing Partner of Shrirang Kisanlal Sarda and promoter of City Center Mall, Nashik, an entrepreneur from Nashik was the chief guest for the valedictory function.
